C.R. Laurence SR112C 1-1/2" Sof Rod - 102' is an innovative sealant backing material designed to excel in a variety of applications. This continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam features a non-absorbent outer "skin" combined with a resilient interior made of both open and closed cells, allowing it to easily conform to joint irregularities. With its impressive temperature range of -45° to 160°F (-43° to 71°C), the Sof Rod offers versatility for use in EIFS, glazing, curtainwalls, and parking decks. One of the standout advantages of the Sof Rod is its non-gassing nature if damaged, ensuring that your projects maintain integrity. As an inert material, it is compatible with a wide array of cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling options like CRL Vulkem 45 SSL and CRL Tremco® THC900. For optimal installation, use a diameter approximately 25% larger than the joint, and always employ a blunt tool or roller to avoid damage during insertion. It’s essential to keep joints clean and moisture-free before installation. Note that this product should not be used with hot-applied sealants or adhesives exceeding 160°F (71°C). CRL Sof® Rod is an advanced sealant backing material that combines the features of open and closed cell backer rods in a single, high-performance product. This dual celled product will not out-gas when the skin is ruptured and prevent sealant bubbling and failure. It consists of a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure of both open and closed cells. CRL Sof® Rod is chemically inert and compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types.

CRL Sof® Rod is available for purchase in the following diameters – 3/8" to 2" (10 to 51 mm).

• New Joints: Clean thoroughly to remove form-release agents, curing compounds, or debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry before applying sealant.
• Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Use wire brushing and air blasting for effective cleaning. If using an air compressor, ensure it has moisture and oil traps.

1. Prepare the surface by following the Joint Preparation directions.
2. Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod size based on the joint width.
3. Set Depth: Install the backer rod at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, ensuring the sealant forms an "hourglass" shape.
4. Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR for smooth installation.
