This state-of-the-art product combines the best attributes of both open and closed cell backer rods, ensuring it easily conforms to joint irregularities while maintaining structural integrity. The Sof Rod features a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient interior made of extruded polyolefin foam, making it resistant to moisture absorption and non-gassing if damaged. With a temperature range of -45°F to 160°F (-43°C to 71°C), the SR78C is suitable for a multitude of expansion and contraction joint applications, including EIFS, glazing, curtainwalls, and parking decks. Compatibility with virtually all cold-applied sealants, such as CRL Vulkem 45 SSL and CRL Tremco® THC900, further enhances its usability. For effective installation, ensure the joint is clean and moisture-free. The Sof Rod should be approximately 25% larger than the joint and installed using a blunt tool or roller. This roll includes 100 feet of 7/8-inch diameter material, making it a versatile choice for both professionals and knowledgeable homeowners. CRL Sof® Rod is an advanced sealant backing material that combines the features of open and closed cell backer rods in a single, high-performance product. This dual celled product will not out-gas when the skin is ruptured and prevent sealant bubbling and failure. It consists of a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure of both open and closed cells. CRL Sof® Rod is chemically inert and compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types.

CRL Sof® Rod is available for purchase in the following diameters – 3/8" to 2" (10 to 51 mm).

• New Joints: Clean thoroughly to remove form-release agents, curing compounds, or debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry before applying sealant.
• Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Use wire brushing and air blasting for effective cleaning. If using an air compressor, ensure it has moisture and oil traps.

1. Prepare the surface by following the Joint Preparation directions.
2. Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod size based on the joint width.
3. Set Depth: Install the backer rod at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, ensuring the sealant forms an "hourglass" shape.
4. Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR for smooth installation.
