C.R. Laurence SR118B 1-1/8" Sof® Rod - 500' Case is a cutting-edge sealant backing solution that seamlessly combines the benefits of both open and closed cell backer rods. This continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam features a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient interior network, making it ideal for a variety of applications. The Sof® Rod easily conforms to joint irregularities, ensuring a tight seal in expansion and contraction joints like EIFS, glazing, curtain walls, and parking decks. Designed to withstand temperatures from -45°F to 160°F (-43°C to 71°C), this product remains stable and effective under varying conditions. Notably, it does not out-gas if damaged and is compatible with most cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling options like CRL Vulkem 45 SSL. For optimal installation, ensure the joint is clean and use a Sof® Rod diameter approximately 25% larger than the joint itself. Tools such as the Cat. No. T607CU605 Backer Rod Insert Tool Set or Cat. No. SBRR Backer Rod Roller can enhance the installation process. The product comes in various shades of black, which do not impact its performance. CRL Sof® Rod is an advanced sealant backing material that combines the features of open and closed cell backer rods in a single, high-performance product. This dual celled product will not out-gas when the skin is ruptured and prevent sealant bubbling and failure. It consists of a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure of both open and closed cells. CRL Sof® Rod is chemically inert and compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types.

CRL Sof® Rod is available for purchase in the following diameters – 3/8" to 2" (10 to 51 mm).

• New Joints: Clean thoroughly to remove form-release agents, curing compounds, or debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry before applying sealant.
• Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Use wire brushing and air blasting for effective cleaning. If using an air compressor, ensure it has moisture and oil traps.

1. Prepare the surface by following the Joint Preparation directions.
2. Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod size based on the joint width.
3. Set Depth: Install the backer rod at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, ensuring the sealant forms an "hourglass" shape.
4. Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR for smooth installation.
