CRL SR38B 3/8" Sof Rod - 3600' Case is an innovative sealant backing material that seamlessly combines the advantages of open and closed cell backer rods. This continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam features a non-absorbent outer "skin" and a resilient interior, ensuring it adapts effortlessly to joint irregularities while maintaining superior performance under varying temperatures from -45°F to 160°F (-43°C to 71°C). One of the standout qualities of Sof® Rod is its non-gassing nature if damaged, providing peace of mind during installation. It is compatible with nearly all cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling options such as CRL Vulkem 45 SSL and CRL Tremco® THC900. Ideal for a variety of applications including EIFS, glazing, curtainwalls, and parking decks, Sof® Rod is designed to fill joint dimensions similar to that of closed cell backer rods. For optimal installation, ensure the joint is clean and moisture-free, and use a diameter approximately 25% larger than the joint size. Tools like the Cat. No. T607CU605 Backer Rod Insert Tool Set or Cat. No. SBRR Backer Rod Roller are recommended for smooth application. Available in various shades of black, the performance remains consistent regardless of color.

CRL Sof® Rod is an advanced sealant backing material that combines the features of open and closed cell backer rods in a single, high-performance product. This dual celled product will not out-gas when the skin is ruptured and prevent sealant bubbling and failure. It consists of a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure of both open and closed cells. CRL Sof® Rod is chemically inert and compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types.

CRL Sof® Rod is available for purchase in the following diameters – 3/8" to 2" (10 to 51 mm).

• New Joints: Clean thoroughly to remove form-release agents, curing compounds, or debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry before applying sealant.
• Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Use wire brushing and air blasting for effective cleaning. If using an air compressor, ensure it has moisture and oil traps.

1. Prepare the surface by following the Joint Preparation directions.
2. Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod size based on the joint width.
3. Set Depth: Install the backer rod at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, ensuring the sealant forms an "hourglass" shape.
4. Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR for smooth installation.
