This continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam features a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient interior network, ensuring it conforms easily to joint irregularities while preventing moisture absorption. Designed with durability in mind, the Sof Rod will not out-gas if damaged, providing reliable performance across a wide range of applications, including EIFS, glazing, curtain walls, and parking decks. Its operational temperature range from -45°F to 160°F (-43°C to 71°C) makes it suitable for various environmental conditions. Installation is straightforward: ensure the joint is clean and moisture-free, and select a Sof Rod with a diameter approximately 25% larger than the joint. For optimal results, use tools like the Cat. No. T607CU605 Backer Rod Insert Tool Set or the Cat. No. SBRR Backer Rod Roller. This product is available in different shades of black, all maintaining the same high performance. Note that it is not compatible with hot-applied sealants or adhesives exceeding 160°F (71°C). CRL Sof® Rod is an advanced sealant backing material that combines the features of open and closed cell backer rods in a single, high-performance product. This dual celled product will not out-gas when the skin is ruptured and prevent sealant bubbling and failure. It consists of a continuous length of extruded polyolefin foam with a non-absorbent outer skin and a resilient internal structure of both open and closed cells. CRL Sof® Rod is chemically inert and compatible with virtually all known cold-applied sealants, including self-leveling types.

CRL Sof® Rod is available for purchase in the following diameters – 3/8" to 2" (10 to 51 mm).

• New Joints: Clean thoroughly to remove form-release agents, curing compounds, or debris. Ensure the joint is clean and dry before applying sealant.
• Repairing Old Joints: Remove all old sealant or filler. Use wire brushing and air blasting for effective cleaning. If using an air compressor, ensure it has moisture and oil traps.

1. Prepare the surface by following the Joint Preparation directions.
2. Measure and Select: Choose the correct backer rod size based on the joint width.
3. Set Depth: Install the backer rod at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, ensuring the sealant forms an "hourglass" shape.
4. Use the Right Tools: Install with a blunt tool or roller. The Cat. No. T607CU605 or Cat. No. SBRR for smooth installation.
