Before you prepare a door and frame for an ABH 1023, 4024, 9024 or any other ABH overhead stop or holder, get the template for that exact series: the layout changes with the series, the size and the way the door is hung. Looking for an ABH pull, hinge or plate instead? Start from our ABH Manufacturing page.
ABH 1000, 4000 and 9000 templates (PDF)
- 1000 template - concealed mount, heavy duty. Also: 1000HC hold closed, with A110WT.
- 1000A template - concealed mount, heavy duty, field adjustable. Also: with A110WT.
- 4000 template - concealed mount, medium duty. Also: 4000HC hold closed.

A110WT is ABH's wide throw aluminum continuous hinge. Options and accessories are on the 1000, 4000, 4400 and 9000 cut sheets, and templates for ABH's other products are on its Templates list.
How to read an ABH overhead stop number
On the 1000, 4000, 4400 and 9000 cut sheets the model number has four digits:
- First two: the series (10, 40, 44 or 90).
- Third: the function. 1 is hold-open, 2 is stop, 3 is friction.
- Fourth: the size, set by the frame opening and the way the door is hung.
- N in front: all stainless steel components.
So 4024 is a 4000 series concealed stop in size 4, 9024 a 9000 series surface stop in size 4, and 1023 a 1000 series concealed stop in size 3. Letters after the digits match ABH's series names: A is adjustable (field adjustable on the 1000A and 9000A), RA adjustable, SL slim line and SA slim line adjustable. HC (hold closed, stop function only) and CL (for cam lift hinges, up to 1/2 inch of lift) are options with templates of their own.
Door opening sizes by series
Ranges are in inches, from the current templates; a dash means no center hung layout. The same digit can mean a different door in another series, and the digits do not run in width order: the narrowest 1000 sizes are 6 and 7, and the narrowest 9000 size is 8.

|---|---|---|

| 5 | 44 to 52 | 47 to 54 |
On the 1000 template, sizes 6 and 7 are marked butt hinge only. The 1000A template uses the same openings for sizes 1 to 5 and covers butt hinges and 3/4 inch offset pivots only; for size 1 on offset pivots it says to contact ABH.

What to check before you open a template
- Push or pull side. The 4400, 9000, 9000A and 9000RA have separate pull side templates; the front view on the standard 4400 template shows the push side.
- Door hand. The 1000 and 4000 templates, like the 9000 pull side one, call the unit non-handed but the installation handed. ABH lists the 3500 as 3500L and 3500R.
- Hinges or pivots. Center hung pivots have their own figures, and for invisible hinges the 1000 template says to contact ABH.
- The door itself. The 1000 and 4000 take single or double acting doors, the 1000A, 4400, 9000 and 9000A single acting only. The 1000, 1000A, 9000 and 9000A tables cover 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors; the 4000 and 4400 split by thickness.
- Hold-open angle. The 1000, 1000A, 4000, 4400 and 9000 tables run from 85 to 110 degrees in 5 degree steps; the 9000A table is set for 95 degrees, and that template shows how to change it.
Notes printed on the drawings
On the 1000, 1000A, 4000, 4400, 9000 and 9000A templates:
- Request the latest drawing for a new installation.
- A and B are measured from the centerline of the pivot point, in inches. The drawings are not to scale.
- Drilling and tapping are done in the field.
- Dead stop: add 5/8 inch to A on the 1000 and 9000, 1/2 inch on the 4000, 3/4 inch on the 4400, 7/8 inch on the 1000A.
- Hinge side or flush transom mounting calls for angle jamb bracket 90541 on the 9000 and 44443 on the 4400.
