When you order Baldwin hardware or a service part, the item number has to match what you need. A number such as 5015.056.PASS or ENTUBCFR150 names the product, the finish and the configuration. Below we decode Estate and Reserve item numbers and finish codes from Baldwin's price books, including set screws, spindles and key blanks.
Baldwin Estate and Baldwin Reserve
Both price books, the Baldwin Estate Price Book and the Baldwin Reserve Price Book, are linked on Baldwin's Product Literature page. Our catalog has both lines, for example the Estate 5015056PASS knob set and the Reserve ENTUBCFR150 lever.
How to read a Baldwin Estate item number
The Estate price book says Baldwin part numbers are made up of three parts separated by periods: the product number (style), the 3-digit finish, and a suffix (function and configuration). Its examples: 5455v.056.MR (5455V lever, satin nickel, minus rose), 5148.056 (traditional rose, satin nickel) and 5540.056.P (tubular latch, satin nickel, privacy).
A selection from the book's suffix table:
| Suffix | Meaning |
|---|---|
| .MR | Pair of knobs or levers, minus rose |
| .IMR | One knob, minus rose |
| .RMR, .LMR | One right or one left lever, minus rose |
| .PASS | Pre-configured passage set |
| .PRIV | Pre-configured privacy set |
| .FD | Pre-configured full dummy set; on a rose, pair, dummy |
| .P | Privacy latch (no suffix: passage latch) |
On our pages for the items in this guide, the part number has a BAL_ prefix and no periods: BAL_5015056PASS is 5015.056.PASS, which the book lists as the 5015 Classic Knob pre-configured with the 5048 rose, passage, in finish 056. Our 5002112FD rose is 5002.112.FD: rose 5002, finish 112, pair, dummy.
Handing shows in suffixes such as .RMR and .LMR; the book says the hand of the door is always determined from the outside. See our door handing chart.
How to read a Baldwin Reserve item number
Reserve numbers are short letter codes plus the finish. The Reserve price book's sample order line, QTY 2 EN.CUR.R.TRR.150.6L.DS.CKY.KC, labels its codes function, style, handing, rose and finish (required), then latch, strike, cylinder and keying (options). Codes from its How to Order tables include:
- Function: EN entry, PS passage, PV privacy, FD full dummy, HD half dummy (knobs and levers).
- Style: TUB (Tube) and CUR (Curve) levers, ELL (Ellipse) and TRA (Traditional) knobs.
- Handing: L or R. The code table requires it for ARC and CUR levers only (levers default to R, knobs skip handing). The knob and lever notes also require it when ordering the half dummy function and with orders that will be split finish, split lever style or split with a knob.
- Rose: CFR (Cont. 5"), CRR (Cont. Round), TAR (Trad. Arch), TRR (Trad. Round) and others.
By default, the book says, the product ships with a 6-way adjustable latch with dual strikes, keyed different (if keyed) and a C-keyway cylinder. Our ENTUBCFR150 is EN (entry), TUB (Tube lever), CFR (Cont. 5" rose) and 150 (Satin Nickel); its name lists the 6AL latch and dual strike.
Baldwin finish codes and Lifetime (PVD) finishes
The finish page of the Estate price book groups its single finishes like this (it also lists mixed-metal codes M01 to M10):
| Code | Finish | Group |
|---|---|---|
| 003 | Lifetime (PVD) Polished Brass | PVD |
| 044 | Lifetime (PVD) Satin Brass | PVD |
| 055 | Lifetime (PVD) Polished Nickel | PVD |
| 056 | Lifetime (PVD) Satin Nickel | PVD |
| 076 | Lifetime (PVD) Graphite Nickel | PVD |
| 031 | Non-Lacquered Brass | Living |
| 033 | Vintage Brass | Living |
| 102 | Oil Rubbed Bronze | Living |
| 402 | Distressed Oil Rubbed Bronze | Living |
| 050 | Satin Brass & Black | Non-living |
| 060 | Satin Brass & Brown | Non-living |
| 077 | Heirloom Brass | Non-living |
| 112 | Venetian Bronze | Non-living |
| 190 | Satin Black | Non-living |
| 260 | Polished Chrome | Non-living |
It also lists three select finishes, which it says are only available in select Estate Collections: 030 Polished Brass, 140 Polished Nickel and 150 Satin Nickel. These are separate codes from 003, 055 and 056. The Reserve book lists ten finishes: 003, 031, 044, 055, 112, 150, 190 and 260 with the names above, plus 481 Dark Bronze and 492 White Bronze.
In both books the finishes named Lifetime are the PVD finishes (Physical Vapor Deposition, per Baldwin's PVD sell sheet). The Estate book says PVD finishes are designed to last a lifetime and withstand the wear and tear of various outdoor conditions, while living finishes are designed to evolve over time.
The Estate finish page cross-references seven codes to US and BHMA numbers (no BHMA number for 003 and 056):
| Baldwin | US | BHMA |
|---|---|---|
| 003 | 3 | - |
| 044 | 4 | 606 |
| 050 | 5 | 609 |
| 056 | 15 | - |
| 102 | 10B | 613 |
| 190 | 19 | 622 |
| 260 | 26 | 625 |
Our finish codes chart explains these systems across brands.
Baldwin set screws, spindles and key blanks
These Estate service parts use the same pattern; the spindles and set screws carry .004 or .009 in the finish position:
- 1327.009, set screws (pair), which the book says are included with all Estate knobs and levers, 0.25" black oxide. Ours: 1327009 set screw pack.
- Spindles: broached straight (passage) 0509.004 to 0517.004, 3" to 7" (0517.004 is 3.75"); broached swivel (privacy) 0519.004 to 0527.004; broached half spindles for front doors, thumbpiece to knob or lever, 0530.004 to 0539.004. The book lists .A transitional spindles (old style) for use with all discontinued Estate threaded knobs and levers, as well as all current Estate knobs and levers. Ours: 0511004 4" straight broached spindle.
- Privacy buttons 5510.xxx.0030 (knob-strength latches) and 5513.xxx.0030 (lever-strength latches) carry the finish in the middle. Ours: 55101020030, finish 102.
- Key blanks: 8335.152, listed in the book as a 5-pin standard key blank, C (03) keyway. Ours: 8335152 5-pin C keyway key blank.
On the Reserve service parts pages (keys and cylinders, strikes and screwpacks, misc. parts), numbers start with 8BR. A part offered in finishes ends in a finish suffix, not the finish code, and the book says to combine the part number and the finish suffix:
| Finish | Suffix |
|---|---|
| 003 | -001 |
| 112 | -003 |
| 150 | -004 |
| 260 | -006 |
| 481 | -007 |
| 492 | -008 |
| 055 | -009 |
| 190 | -010 |
| 044 | -011 |
| 031 | -012 |
So our 8BR0506003 screw pack is knob or lever screwpack 8BR0506 with suffix -003: finish 112 Venetian Bronze, not 003. Read the ending as a finish only where the book prints finish suffixes for the part: set screw kits 8BR0509-001 (entry knob), 8BR0510-001 (entry lever) and 8BR0511-001 (PV/PS/FD/HD), two set screws each, show N/A under every finish. Key blanks 8BR0100-007 (SC1, C-Keyway) and 8BR0100-008 (SmartKey KW1 keyway), Baldwin bow, 10 per box, are two keyways, not two finishes. Ours: 8BR0100008 key blanks. Our key blank guide explains keyways.
