National Guard Products (NGP) numbers such as 425DKB, 700S, 320NA or 115NA start with a profile number, followed by letters for the seal, the finish or both. This page decodes them from NGP's current catalogs and explains how lengths and sets are ordered.
The NGP catalogs behind this page
NGP's catalogs are on its Catalogs page. This guide uses the Thresholds (NGP-CAT-THR-0926-A), Gasketing & Automatic Door Bottoms (NGP-CAT-GAS-0926-A) and Gapguard Fire Door Accessories (NGP-CAT-GAP-0926-A) catalogs. Page numbers are the printed ones (T, G, GAP).
How an NGP number is built
In the catalog examples below, the profile number comes first, a seal letter follows where the product has a seal, and the finish suffix comes last:
| Number | Product | Letters |
|---|---|---|
| 425DKB | Saddle threshold | DKB: dark bronze |
| 896V | Bumper seal threshold | V: vinyl seal |
| 700S | Perimeter seal | S: silicone; no suffix: mill |
| 320NA | Automatic door bottom | N: neoprene, A: anodized |
| 200NSS | Door sweep | N: neoprene, SS: stainless |
| 16A | Rain drip guard | A: anodized |
Unlike Pemko (see our Pemko automatic door bottom guide), NGP's examples put the seal letter before the finish, as in 700NA or 220SA.
NGP finish suffixes
From the finish tables on pages G5 (gasketing) and T4 (thresholds):
| Suffix | Finish | BHMA |
|---|---|---|
| None | Mill aluminum | 719 |
| A | Anodized aluminum (gasketing) | 628 |
| B | Black anodized | 711 |
| DKB | Dark bronze | 710 |
| POL | Polished | 717 |
The threshold table has no A. It adds the optional slip-resistant SIA plus BR (architectural bronze) and SS (stainless steel) suffix families, such as BR-POL and SS-POL. Our finish codes chart explains BHMA and US numbers.
Seal letters, and letters with two meanings
Page G5 lists these gasket material letters: N neoprene, U polyurethane, V vinyl, S silicone, T or T6 thermoplastic, P polypropylene pile. Other suffixes include WH (door bottom drop bar with nylon brush) and -BB (black brush). Context matters:
- B is black anodized on aluminum, but brown on the self-adhesive silicone seals 5050B and 5070B (pages G13, G15).
- On self-adhesive silicone seals, C is charcoal (5050C, 2525C), CL clear (5050CL) and W white (5050W).
- SS is stainless steel: page G29 lists the 200NSS (neoprene) and 200SSS (silicone) sweeps in Type 304, brushed #4 finish (US32D, 630).
- The 115NA and 125NA astragal seals carry an N, but page G48 prints their seal as EPDM.
- In 8144S, S means smooth side up (page T38).
NGP threshold numbers
The 425 (page T8) and 425E (page T7) are both 1/2 x 5 inch saddle thresholds, but separate profiles with different wall thicknesses (.162 and .120 inch). HD marks heavy-duty profiles (pages T14-T15) such as 425HD, described "For Use Where Forklift or Vehicular Traffic Occurs"; the finish follows, as in 425HDDKB. Bumper seal thresholds such as the 896 take V, N or S; page T17 notes that vinyl is "Supplied Unless Other Material Specified". The 8144 is a threshold assembly plate: page T38 lists the plates 8142 to 8150 (1/4 inch high, 2 to 10 inches wide) for building custom thresholds, and components may be ordered "Separately for Field Assembly or Welded into One-Piece Units".
Page T5 says aluminum and architectural bronze thresholds are "furnished longer than ordered to allow for field sizing and fitting": 1/2 inch is added under 61 inches, 1 inch over 61 inches, unless ordered "net" cut. Stainless steel thresholds are supplied net cut. The legend of NGP's ADA symbol (page T3) reads: "Barrier Free Thresholds Meet the Requirements of ADA Standards for Accessible Design and ICC/ANSI A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities."
Gasketing and self-adhesive seals
Page G26 lists 700N, 700S and 700U (neoprene, silicone, polyurethane) in mill finish, plus A, B or DKB, as in 700NA. The self-adhesive 5050 comes in 17, 20, 21, 25 and 300 foot rolls (page G13; clear not in 300 foot) and the 2525C in the same rolls (page G14), while the 5070 comes in 4, 7, 8 and 9 foot lengths (page G15). For Fast Attach Two-Way Tape, page G12 says to add the suffix FATT and states: "FATT IS NOT CLASSIFIED FOR USE ON FIRE DOORS".
Automatic door bottoms and sweeps
Door bottoms follow the same order, as in 220SA, 320NA or 423NA; stainless versions end in SS, such as 229NSS. The 220, 420, 225, 335 and 423 entries say "Specify Exact Net Length Required to Avoid Field Sizing" and list 11-1/2 to 60 inches; the 320, for hollow metal doors, lists 12 to 60 inches. The 225, 335, 320 and 423 are furnished 1/2 inch shorter than ordered (page G34: 36 inches is furnished 35-1/2).
The surface door bottom pages (G32-G33) state "All Automatic Door Bottoms are Handed. Right Hand Supplied Unless Specified. Field Reversible"; the mortise pages (G34-G35) say "Non-Handed". See our door handing chart.
On nylon brush sweeps such as the 600 and B606A, A comes with gray brush, B and DKB with black brush, and -BB means black brush (page G45).
Astragals and drip guards
Page G48 marks the 115NA and 125NA "Provided as Two-Piece Set", while the 137NA, 137SA and 9600 say "Order as Set to Receive Two Pieces". It also states: "Fire-Rated Astragal Seals Cannot Replace any Astragal Required on the Door by the Door Manufacturer to Maintain its Fire Label." Page G55 lists the rain drip guards 16A, 16B, 16DKB, 17, 17B and 17DKB.
NGP 9200 and other older cut sheets
Some NGP cut sheets on our site are older editions marked copyright 2015, such as the 9200, 700N and 2525 cut sheets (PDF). Where they differ, go by the current catalog:
- 9200: the cut sheet lists 9200 (gray) and 9200DKB (brown) in 36, 48, 84, 96 and 108 inch lengths. The Gapguard catalog (page GAP18) lists 9200C (charcoal) and 9200GR (gray), "Sold by the Foot: 3' Minimum to 410' Reel".
- 700N: the cut sheet lists 700NB as gold; page G5 lists B as black anodized.
- 2525: the cut sheet lists 2525B, 2525C and 2525W; page G14 lists only 2525C.
