John Wright Company hardware carries six-digit item numbers such as 088510, while older John Wright documents call the same part 88-510. This guide shows how to match the two forms, read the suffix letters and understand WeatherWright.

John Wright item numbers: 088510 and 88-510
The John Wright Hardware Catalog (Catalog Version 19) prints numbers with a leading zero, such as #088372PC, as do John Wright's product pages ("Item Number: 088510"). John Wright mixes both forms: the Version 19 catalog lists screw set #088370 for "88-372(#3) through 88-376 (#1) ALP hinges".
| Short form | Item number | Item |
|---|---|---|
| 88-372PC | 088372PC | #3 mortise shutter hinge |
| 88-254PC | 088254PC | Scroll shutter dog with lag |
| 88-439 | 088439 | Magnetic shutter dog holder |
| 88-510 | 088510 | New York Style 1 hinges |
| 88-303B | 088303B | Bermuda shutter fasteners |
In these examples you add a leading 0 and drop the hyphen; John Wright prints no such rule, so compare names too. Our product pages show the item number in the title and on the Model line.
Suffixes: read them from the product name
John Wright prints no key to these letters. The examples below come from its product names and catalog lines:
- PC - powder coated. The catalog lists raw Clark's Tip hinge #088321 beside #088321PC, "Clark's Tip Surface Shutter Hinge with Powder Coat".
- PCR - retail pack: "#088372PC / #088372PCR RETAIL PACK", one set with matching black zinc screws and a DIY instruction sheet.
- P - on strap hinges, a pair without pintles: the catalog lists 088625P in a column headed "Pair Without Pintle" and notes "088625P: Sold as a Pair."
- WP - "Without Pintle" in John Wright's mid range hinge names, such as 088513WP.
- L and R - left and right, as in 088510L and 088510R, New York Style 1 left and right hand pairs without pintles.
- S, SS and ES - stainless steel, in 088625S (strap hinge), 088550S (pull ring), 088502SS (slide bolt) and 088254ES (scroll shutter dog).
- AL and E - among the 088254 scroll shutter dogs John Wright lists today, AL is cast aluminum and E is steel; the Version 19 catalog lists stainless and aluminum scroll dogs as #088254S and #088263.
- R on 088280R, the Shutter Dog Value Pack, "Sold as kit."
One letter can mean different things: B marks 088303B, which John Wright calls identical to 88303 except for the WeatherWright coating, but bullet catch 088475B is "Black Anodized Aluminum". Numbers also vary: the 8 inch stainless slide bolt is 88-502S in the older short form, #088502s in the Version 19 catalog and 088502SS today. Order by the full item number and product name, not by letters alone.
Knob and pull finishes have their own numbers
None of the 45 knobs and 23 pulls on our brand page has a letter suffix, so another finish means another number: the 2-hole drawer pull is 088609 in Vintage Iron, 088610 in Faux Copper, 088611 in Faux Brass (not in the Version 19 catalog), 088612 in Satin and 088613 in Chrome.
The catalog's pull, knob and hook pages use finish names such as Vintage Iron, Black Nickel, Black, Faux Copper, Faux Brass, Satin, Faux Satin, Chrome, Faux Chrome and Chrome plated. One item can carry two of them (#088732 is headed "(Faux Satin)" and described as "Satin finish"), and the catalog prints no US or BHMA finish codes, so go by the item number. For hole spacing see Cabinet Pull Sizes.
WeatherWright finish and raw cast iron
The Version 19 catalog prints WeatherWright beside items such as #088372PC and #088303B and notes on its Acme, Lull & Porter hinge page: "WeatherWright applies to only powder coated hinges."
Raw items differ. The Version 19 catalog prints "Hinges are raw cast iron and must be painted before installation." under the raw hinges #088378, #088321 and #088323, and John Wright's page for 088303 says "Raw cast iron must be painted." The Version 19 catalog and John Wright's current page give thumb latch #088495 a "vintage iron finish", and John Wright describes the 088496 Gate Thumb Latch as cast iron with a WeatherWright powder coated finish.
Sold as: singles, pairs and sets
The catalog prints selling units such as "Sold individually", "Sold in pairs" and "Sold as a Pair"; an Acme, Lull & Porter hinge set includes 2 left-handed and 2 right-handed hinges with fasteners, "enough hardware for one window"; the catalog adds "Does not include mounting screws". On our pages, check the title and the Sold As line, for example Set of 4 on 088372PC and Pair on 088254PC.
088496 and the New England style items 088383, 088386 and 088387 are not in the Version 19 catalog; use their product pages.
