How to Read Kingston Brass Model Numbers and Finish Codes

A Kingston Brass model number such as KB1601AL holds the product, the finish and the handle style. This page shows how to read the finish digit, the letter codes and the prefixes, and how to get from a faucet number to its matching parts.

Sources: the product titles on kingstonbrass.com (about 31,000 product pages, October 2026), the KB1601AL spec sheet, parts diagram and installation instructions, and Kingston's Design Portfolio 2026. The patterns below are counted from those titles; they are not a key published by Kingston Brass.

How a Kingston Brass model number is built

On kingstonbrass.com the title of one faucet reads "Kingston Heirloom KB1601AL - Heritage Double-Handle 3-Hole Deck Mount 4-Inch Centerset Bathroom Faucet with Pop-Up Drain, Polished Chrome". Heirloom is the series, KB1601AL the model number, Heritage the collection and Polished Chrome the finish. In the number, the 1 before the letters is the finish digit and AL is the handle style. On our product page the same number carries a KIN_ prefix (KIN_KB1601AL).

Kingston Brass finish codes: the finish digit

Kingston Brass's spec sheet for this faucet (PDF, 2019-08-B) and its parts diagram are both titled "KB1600,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9AL,ALAC": one drawing for ten finish digits. The product titles of that family, KB1600AL to KB1609AL, give these finishes:

DigitFinish in the title
0Matte Black
1Polished Chrome
2Polished Brass
3Antique Brass
4Polished Chrome / Polished Brass
5Oil Rubbed Bronze
6Polished Nickel
7Brushed Brass
8Brushed Nickel
9Brushed Nickel / Polished Brass

The eleventh version, KB160ALAC, is Antique Copper: no finish digit, and AC at the end.

On kingstonbrass.com, in 1,603 product families whose model numbers differ in one digit only (8,006 products), the digits 0, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 went with the finish in the table, alone or as the second half of a two-part finish name such as White/Matte Black, in more than 97 percent of the titles, and 3 in 89 percent. In 1,322 of those families the finish digit ends the first group of digits, as in KB1601AL; in 220 it is the last character after more letters, as in K238A1.

Exceptions: KB130 is Polished Chrome although it ends in 0, on LS4203CXL the 3 is Brushed Brass, and 4 and 9 are rare (42 and 23 of the 8,006 products) and mark other finishes on some numbers, such as Black Stainless on CC2204. Always read the finish in the product title.

Finish letters at the end of the number

Other numbers end in finish letters instead. A selection from Kingston Brass product titles:

A final C is not always Polished Chrome: the VTAP6032R22C tub is Glossy White and KBH1605AXC a "Brass Cross Handle (Cold Side)" in Oil Rubbed Bronze.

Letters after the digits: handle style, collection, options

KB1601AL, KB1601AX, KB1601PL and KB1601PX have the same title and finish; only the letters differ. Kingston Brass's handle part titles show what they go with: all 130 handle numbers with AL are lever handles and all 123 with AX cross handles; 139 of 142 with PL are porcelain lever handles and all 95 with PX porcelain cross handles.

Some letter groups go with one collection. In faucet titles that name a collection after the number, DL is Concord in 457 of 472 numbers and DX in 247 of 257; ZX is Millennium (295 of 295), CML Manhattan (269 of 269), BEX Essex (298 of 304), TAL Tudor (165 of 165) and RX Belknap (194 of 194). AL, AX, PL and PX appear in several collections, Heritage and Restoration among them.

Two more letters can add an option: of the 844 numbers ending in BS, 811 are titled "with Brass Sprayer" (for example KS1248NXBS), and of the 270 ending in SP, 224 "with Side Sprayer"; KB701SP is a "Pull-Out Sprayer Kitchen Faucet".

Kingston Brass collections and the three series

The Design Portfolio 2026 says "Kingston's collections are organized into three distinct series: Sona, Tulare, & Heirloom", which "represent contemporary, transitional, and traditional designs, respectively". About two thirds of the product titles (20,968 of 30,915) carry one of the three names before the model number. In those titles the collection name, where there is one, follows the number; other titles put it in front, as in "Kingston Concord KS8415DL". The Collections page on kingstonbrass.com lists more than 180 names. The prefix does not show the series: KS1608TAL is Heirloom, KS2368AL Tulare and KS3045DKL Sona.

Prefixes: KS, KB, CC, VB and the rest

The model numbers we read start with about 700 different letter groups. KS and KB are the largest, with 7,363 and 4,185 numbers. A selection:

Part numbers: handles, spouts and cartridges

Part numbers such as these add letters to a faucet prefix. In the product titles on kingstonbrass.com:

  • KSH and KBH are handles (1,237 of 1,239 and 887 of 887 titles).
  • KSHI and KBHI are handle index buttons, KSHF handle flanges and KBE escutcheon plates.
  • KSP is a faucet spout. Some titles name the faucet, as in "KSP216C Brass Faucet Spout for KS216C".
  • KSRP and KBRP are cartridges and small repair parts such as handle adapters and bonnet nuts.

The KB1601AL installation instructions (PDF, 2026-07-G) list two replacement parts: "Cartridge: KBRP101C" and "Handle: KBH1601AL". Here the handle keeps the faucet's digits and letters, so its finish digit reads the same way: KBH1605AL is Oil Rubbed Bronze. The cartridge number does not; our Kingston Brass cartridge guide shows how to find the right one.
