Need a replacement lever, strike or latch for a Schlage lock? You order it by part number, and the right number depends on the lock series, the finish and a few door dimensions. Below is what to note before you order, where Schlage says to look for the part, and where the Schlage parts are in our store.
Start with the lock series
Schlage publishes service manuals by lock series, with exploded views of the lock and charts that identify the parts for replacement. Schlage's site has manuals for these series:
| Series | Lock type | Locks made |
|---|---|---|
| A | Cylindrical, Grade 2 | after 1984 |
| ALX | Cylindrical, Grade 2 | after December 2019 |
| ND | Cylindrical, Grade 1 | after November 2003, in two manuals |
| L, LV, LM | Mortise | after June 2001 |
| B | Deadbolt | after June 2013 |
| CO | Electronic | after May 2018 |
The manuals are linked from Schlage's pages Replacement Parts: Mechanical Products and Replacement Parts: Electronic Access Control, which also list manuals for AD and NDE Series locks and for key systems.
Where to look on the lock
Schlage's replacement parts pages and manuals point to these places:
- The latch: check that the name Schlage is imprinted on it.
- Model numbers are not printed on the components of mechanical and electrified locks. Schlage points to its series catalogs to identify the lock.
- L Series mortise locks: all lock case covers are labeled with the date of manufacture, for example 8/15/13 for August 15, 2013.
- Electronic locks: the product label, often under the cover of the device, shows the lock model number, sales order number and manufacture date. On wireless locks the label may be behind the battery pack.
What identifies a Schlage lock part
The ordering procedures in the ND Series and L Series service manuals list the data Schlage uses to describe a lock or a part:
- Product: the complete lock or the part number. In the ALX Series manual the number after the series letters is the function: 10 is passage, 40 privacy and 80 storeroom.
- Design code of the outside and inside trim, such as ATH (Athens), RHO (Rhodes) or SPA (Sparta) for levers.
- Finish code of the outside and inside trim.
- Hand of the door: RH, LH, RR (right reverse) or LR (left reverse).
- Latch and strike: standard, or the part number of a non-standard one and the lip length of a non-standard strike.
- Door thickness when it is not standard, as a code: 138 is 1-3/8 inches, 214 is 2-1/4 and 212 is 2-1/2.
- Keying details.
Not every item applies to every series: the ALX Series manual marks door thickness and handing as not applicable, while the L Series manual says LM9300 locks must be ordered with the correct handing.
How to read a Schlage part number
On our site the finish code and, for some parts, a dimension are written after the base part number:
- ALX FK 40 613 234: the ALX Series manual orders function kits by function, finish and backset, and reads ALX FK 40 613 238 as privacy function, oil rubbed bronze, 2-3/8 inch backset latch. The kit on our page ends in 234 and is listed with a 2-3/4 inch backset.
- 10-025 1316 626: strike 10-025 with a 1-3/16 inch lip in finish 626. The ALX Series manual shows this strike with lip lengths of 1-3/16, 1-3/8 and 1-1/2 inches.
- 03-231 ATH 613: ND Series lever 03-231 in the Athens design and finish 613.
Finish codes in the L Series manual include 605 bright brass, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 626 satin chromium plated and 630 satin stainless steel. Our product pages note that many parts are finish specific.
ND Series parts: check the date
Schlage has two ND Series service manuals, one for locks manufactured before 1-31-17 and one for locks manufactured after. The newer manual lists original and new part numbers side by side (closed lever: original 03-030, new 03-230). It also says locks made before February 2017 may be upgraded to the new spring cage, lever and, if applicable, button assemblies, with all upgrades required at the same time. If you do not know when an ND lock was made, ask before you order.
Schlage parts diagrams
The parts diagrams are the exploded views in the service manuals. For a Schlage mortise lock parts diagram, use the L Series manual, which has separate sections for trim assemblies and lock case assemblies.
Schlage FE595 parts
The FE595 is a residential keypad lever. Schlage's Keypad Locks User Guide for the BE365, FE575 and FE595 calls it the Flex Lock and names its parts: keypad, levers, cylinder, thumbturn and latch. The sticker on the back of that guide carries the serial number.
Door thickness kits
According to the CO Series service manual, door thickness kits numbered 23599376 are for CO-100 and CO-200 cylindrical locks. The manual does not list the FE595. In its chart the last three digits follow the door thickness: 23599376-138 is the kit for a 1-3/8 inch door. We also list thick door kits for residential deadbolts, such as the 02-007 kit; its page states the locks and door thicknesses it is listed for.
Schlage lock parts at The Builders Supply
- Lock Parts and Trim, with three groups: Levers, Roses and Escutcheons, Lock Parts and Components and Lock Strikes and Latches
- Cams, Tailpieces and Cylinder Parts
- Schlage - the brand page, one list with complete locks and parts together
These categories hold parts from many brands. Schlage pages are titled with the brand and the part number, and the line under the title says what the part is. The Part Number field shows the same number with the prefix SCH_ and without spaces or dashes (SCH_100251316626). Under Attributes, look for lines such as For Use With, Finish and Door Thickness.
