Corbin Russwin ML2000 Installation Instructions and Templates: ML20900, ML20600 NAC and MELR

Preparing a door for a Corbin Russwin ML2000 mortise lock, or installing its trim, starts with finding the right sheet. Corbin Russwin publishes the installation documents as separate PDFs: a door and frame template, handing instructions, one instruction sheet per trim type and, for the electrified ML20900, ML20600 NAC and MELR locks, their own template and instructions. Below we list the official files, say what is in each one and show how to read model numbers such as ML20606 or ML2057 MELR.

Where to find the ML2000 documents

The ML2000 Series page on corbinrusswin.com lists them under Technical Documents. Corbin Russwin's index is the Mortise Lock Template and Installation Instruction Guide (46126): it lists the ML2000 templates first, then the installation instructions.

ML2000 template: mortise and strike preparation

The general template is T30600, ML2000 Series Mortise Lock, a single sheet. It shows:

  • a frame detail for the strike (ANSI strike 236L72, optional box 120F76)
  • door details for metal and wood doors, and the holes on the door face
  • a table of the holes each function needs: cylinder, thumbturn or emergency key, lever or knob
  • dimensions for two door thicknesses: 1-3/4 inch minimum (standard) and 1-3/8 inch minimum (optional)

The backset is 2-3/4 inches, measured from the centerline of the bevel (the center of the door thickness). The notes say the 1-1/8 inch strike lip suits a frame for a 1-3/4 inch door and varies for other thicknesses. For trim they refer to a separate template. The guide lists the trim templates, for example T30564 for non-Museo sectional trim and T30453 for the M escutcheon. The sheet warns not to scale the drawing and states that door and frame manufacturers are responsible for adequate construction or reinforcements.

The catalog lists door thickness codes from D138 (1-3/8 inch) to D400 (4 inch); 1-3/4 inch is standard, and footnotes limit some trims and the electrified locks.

Handing: LH, RH, LHR, RHR

An ML2000 order includes the hand: LH, RH, LHR or RHR (see our door handing chart). The catalog says the lockset can be re-handed without disassembling the lock case.

  • FM622 Handing Instructions (one page): five illustrated steps for latchbolts with a locking pin, which the sheet says have shipped from the factory since 2022. It warns that lock-in can occur if the latch is not properly installed.
  • Latchbolts without a locking pin: page 85 of the ML2000 Parts Manual (45556). The handing pages of FM475, FM483, FM484, FM357 and FM405 show these steps too.

ML2000 trim installation instructions

The guide lists one instruction sheet per trim:

  • Sectional (rose) trim: FM475
  • M, N and P escutcheon trim: FM483
  • V, R and L escutcheon trim: FM484
  • Museo designer trim: FM601; half trim (M30): FM487

FM475, FM483 and FM484 (8 pages each) start with the handing instructions, then cover the trim, including dummy trim.

Electrified ML2000 instructions: ML20900, ML20600 NAC (ML20606) and MELR

The ML2000 catalog (45300) lists 12-24 VDC operation for ML20900 and ML20600 NAC locks, ordered as fail safe (SAF) or fail secure (SEC). For the ML20900, the catalog says fail safe functions are unlocked when power is off and locked when the power is on; fail secure functions are the reverse.

One template covers all three types: T30970. Its notes ask the door fabricator for a 3/8 inch minimum raceway through the door for the wires between the lock mortise and the electric hinge.

  • ML20900: FM357 (16 pages). Installation from page 5 (lock body handing on page 6, fail safe or fail secure switch on page 7), wiring diagrams on pages 14-15, operational checks on page 16.
  • ML20600 NAC: FM405 (16 pages). Specifications on page 4, hand and bevel on page 6, lock body handing on page 7, switch settings for fail safe or fail secure and for RX on page 8, wiring diagram on page 14, operational check on page 15. According to the catalog, every NAC lock ships with door position and request to exit monitoring installed. For built-in end-of-line resistors (codes R01, R03, R04), FM405 refers to FM406.
  • MELR (Motorized Electric Latch Retraction): FM804 (4 pages). Lock body and the list of trim instruction sheets on page 1, lock schematic and electrical specifications (24 VDC, 700 mA operating, 50 mA hold) on page 2, wiring diagrams on pages 3-4, operational check on page 4.

The catalog offers MELR on three functions: ML2010 (passage), ML2032 (institution or utility) and ML2057 (storeroom). The latchbolt retracts in 1/2 second with applied power and extends again when power is removed. Request to exit (M92) is available for passage and storeroom. For ML2032 the catalog notes: "This function does not allow free egress and can pose a life safety hazard in event of an emergency. Installation should be in accordance with approved codes only." FM804 adds: "The system shall not be installed unless permitted by the local authority having jurisdiction and shall not interfere with the operation of listed panic hardware."

MELR exit devices (ED4000, ED5000) have their own instructions: FM434.

How to read an ML2000 model number

The catalog's stock order example ML2055 LWA 626 RHR reads: series and function, trim, finish, hand. A lock only order puts a trim key such as LL (lever x lever) in the trim field. Codes used in our product names:

CodeMeaning in the catalog
ML2010Passage or closet (F01)
ML2055Classroom (F05)
ML2057Storeroom or closet (F07)
ML20606 NACElectrified entry, key override, no deadbolt
NSA / ASANewport / Armstrong lever, wrought rose
626 / 630Satin chromium plated / satin stainless steel
LC / CL6Less cylinder / LFIC 6-pin less core
M31Working trim only
M92Request to exit monitor
R03Built-in end-of-line resistors (panel-specific)

On the catalog's trim design pages, codes such as NSA combine a lever and a rose or escutcheon: for example, NS is the Newport lever and LW and LS are Lustra levers; A, B and F are roses, and M, N, P and R are escutcheons. Functions are explained in our lock functions guide; see also the finish codes chart and SFIC vs LFIC cores.
