CRL Sliding Glass Door and Window Replacement Parts: How to Identify Rollers, Locks and Screen Parts

This page helps you identify a replacement roller, lock, handle or screen part for a sliding glass door, sliding window or sliding screen door in the C.R. Laurence (CRL) range. It shows what CRL's own catalog and product pages tell you to check on the old part, and where the same details appear on our CRL product pages. It does not list equivalents from other brands.

Which CRL catalog covers these parts

The Catalog Library on CRL's website includes the CRL83R Door and Window Replacement Hardware catalog (copyright 2013) and a Screen Supplies catalog (code SS26 on the back cover). The table is a selection of CRL83R sections with the page labels printed in the catalog. Use CRL83R to identify a part, not as a list of what is offered today.

CRL sliding glass door rollers: what to read off the old roller

The Glass Door Roller Selection Guide on pages 246W and 247W gives three steps:

  1. Choose the mounting style: tab mounted, rail lock mounted, or top mounted with a threaded mounting hole or holes in the top of the housing.
  2. Match the housing width and height. The guide says to measure the housing width and also the width including the dimples that some housings have along both sides.
  3. Match the roller type (nylon or steel) and the outside diameter.

For top mounted housings the guide adds: "Due to the large variety of housing sizes, the entire Roller Assembly must be removed to make an accurate identification."

Where this is on our pages

Our title for one tandem roller reads CRL D1904 1-1/2" Tandem Steel Sliding Glass Door Roller, 3/4" Housing:

  • 1-1/2" - the roller outside diameter
  • Tandem - the number of rollers; the CRL product details we checked say Single or Tandem
  • Steel - the roller material
  • 3/4" Housing - the housing width

The housing height (1-9/16 inches here), the housing length and the Threaded Mounting Hole line are not in the title. They are in the Attributes list on our product page, which repeats CRL's product details for D1904.

Check whether CRL names a door maker. CRL lists the CRL SS7710 stainless steel roller for Milgard doors, and our title repeats that; its page for the D1904 names no door maker. The SS7710 title gives the 1-1/4 inch diameter and the material; that it is a tandem roller with an 11/16 inch wide housing is in the Attributes list. This roller is on CRL's website, but we did not find it in CRL83R.

CRL sliding window rollers

On page 467W CRL describes window rollers as very specialized and unique to the window they were designed to fit, and says: "Always try to match the replacement roller to the old roller precisely."

Example: our CRL G3146 title names the window maker CRL lists it for (Milgard), the 7/16 inch wheel diameter and the nylon material. The Attributes list adds the housing width, height and length.

CRL sliding glass door locks and handles

For mortise locks, the selection guide on page 306W asks you to check three things and adds a measurement:

  • The slotted hole through the upper body of the lock: enclosed, or open to the back of the body.
  • The keyway position when the hook is fully extended (locked): vertical, 22-1/2 degrees or 45 degrees.
  • The face: square cut, or rounded at the top and bottom. The guide states: "Round and Square Face Locks are not interchangeable".
  • The center-to-center distance of the mounting holes. "This dimension is critical and leaves no room for error."

Our title for the CRL E2014 carries two of these answers, Round End Face Plate and 45 Keyway, plus the 1/2 inch lock body width and the door maker CRL lists it for (W & F, written W/F in our title). The mounting hole distance, 3-11/16 inches, is in the Attributes list.

For handles, pages 285W and 286W go by handle type. For hook type surface mounted sets, CRL says to measure the distance between the mounting holes first and then check the latching hook profile height. For flush handle sets it describes two common hook styles, pointing upward or downward: "Both types are available, but not interchangeable." Our CRL C1043 title shows the finish (Black), Non-Keyed, Flush Mount and the 6-5/8 inch mounting hole distance.

CRL screen parts: frame size, corners, spline and screen door rollers

Screen frame corners and spline are chosen by the frame. In CRL83R (page 145W) and in the SS26 Screen Supplies catalog (page 11), the entry for the 3/4 x 5/16 inch roll formed frame WSF345 names its corners (WSC105 mitered, SWSC516 square cut) and its spline (.150 inch in CRL83R, the SS150 series in SS26). So write down both frame dimensions and whether the corners are mitered or square cut. Page 153W of CRL83R carries this note: "Never use a Corner in any Screen Frame it is not designed for."

On our pages, CRL WSC105 5/16" Aluminum Corner for WSF345 A345 Screen Frames has the frame series in the title, and CRL 5C150 Gray .150 Screen Retainer Spline - 500' Roll has the spline diameter, .150 inch.

Sliding screen door rollers start on page 200W with spring tension rollers that have a 1 inch O.D. center groove wheel; the ROLLER column gives the wheel type, such as Nylon or Steel B.B. Our CRL B521 title gives the wheel diameter (1") and material (Nylon). The Attributes list adds the 1/4 inch roller width and a Steel Length of 2-1/2 inches, which CRL's description gives as the length of the steel tension spring.

Sliding shower door rollers are filed under Shower Hardware on CRL's website; start in our Shower door hardware category.
