Deltana Enterprises lists its door hinges in Catalog Version 26.0 as tables of part numbers under headings for size, corners and options. This page explains how to read them and repeats Deltana's sizing rules.
Page numbers refer to the catalog on Deltana's Catalog PDF & Updates page (a large PDF). For hinge types in general, see door hinge types.
Solid brass, steel and stainless steel Deltana hinges
- DSB - solid brass (chapter 1); they "come standard with button tip finials, stainless steel barrel pins, true solid brass screws" (page 1-2). CSB numbers in the same tables carry the CR003 finish.
- S - steel; SS - stainless steel, "Made of industry standard 304 Stainless Steel" (chapter 3).
- DSBLO (lift-off), OK (olive knuckle), DSBS (square barrel) - specialty solid brass (chapter 2).
CR003 is Deltana's CROWN PVD finish, which "has the appearance of polished brass" and "is a titanium PVD process that does not utilize a clear coat" (page 1-2). For US finish codes, see our finish codes chart.
Hinge sizes and corners: square, 1/4" radius and 5/8" radius
Table headings give the size, such as 3-1/2"x 3-1/2" or 4"x 4", and the corners. Page 1-2 defines STD as "Standard Square Corners", R4 as 'Radius (1/4") Round corners' and R5 as 'Radius (5/8") Round corners'; DSB35R426, for example, is listed under 3-1/2"x 3-1/2"x 1/4" Radius Corner. The 1/4" and 5/8" are corner radii, not leaf thickness.
Page 3-4: 'To determine if you have 1/4" or 5/8" radius corner hinge, measure the beginning of the curve to where the corner of the hinge would be if it were square.'
Headings with 5/8"x SQ combine both: Deltana's stainless hinge list names SS44058TTNRP '4" x 4" x 5/8" Radius x Square Corners', and the DSH4SR5 spec sheet drawing shows one leaf with square and one with 5/8" radius corners.
Leaf thickness: Residential and Heavy Duty

Of the chapter 1 and 3 tables that print a thickness, every one headed Residential shows 0.085" and every one headed Heavy Duty or HD shows 0.119" to 0.145". Page 1-2 defines HD as "Heavy Duty Thickness, Architectural Grade", -R as "Residential Grade" and -RZ as "Residential Grade, Zig Zag hole pattern (Non-Template)" - Deltana's own terms; the hinge chapters cite no ANSI/BHMA grade.
Ball bearing, NRP and other option letters
- B or BB - tables headed Ball Bearing or BB (DSB35B3, S44R4HDB26); stainless tables show 2BB as an option (SS44BU32D). In DSB410B, 10B is the finish US10B, not ball bearing.
- N - tables headed NRP, non-removable pin (DSB4N3, S35R4N1B).
- -R or Res - Residential; -RZ adds the zig zag hole pattern (DSB43-RZ).
- UNL - "Unlacquered Finish (No clear coat)".
- Sec, -S or -SEC - tables headed Security, Sec or Sec. Stud (S44R53-SEC), with no further description.
- TT (SS44058TTNRP32D) and the finish code US3/4 are not expanded in the catalog.
Deltana's NRP note (page 3-4): "A hinge equipped with a non-removable pin cannot be disassembled without first opening the hinge to reveal the set-screw embedded perpendicularly on its inside face." On stainless steel hinges "the option can't be added"; stainless hinges made with NRP, such as SS44NU32D, are on pages 3-2 and 3-3.
Handed hinges: -LH, -RH, -L and -R
Lift-off hinges (page 2-2) end in -LH or -RH. Olive knuckle hinges (pages 2-5 and 2-6) end in -R under Right Handed headings and -L under Left Handed ones, so there -R does not mean Residential. Some security hinges (SS44058TA32D-LH) and the DSH4SR5 spring hinges (DSH4SR515-LH) also come in two hands. The catalog labels pictures Left-Hand or Right-Hand but does not explain how to tell the hand; our door handing chart explains how door hands are named.
Deltana spring hinges: single action and double action
DSH hinges are listed under "SPRING HINGES / SINGLE ACTION / STEEL" (pages 3-10 and 3-11). Deltana's DSH4R4 and DSH4SR5 pages say: "Deltana self-closing, spring hinges are adjustable and come in an array of fine finishes." Deltana's online single action list puts "UL Listed" in the names of the 4" and 4-1/2" models DSH44, DSH4R4, DSH4R5, DSH4SR5, DSH4R5T, DSH4R5BM and DSH45, but not of the 3-1/2" models DSH35, DSH35R4 and DSH35R5; it does not say what the listing covers.
Deltana's DASH95 page describes "a floor-mounted self-closing hinge with solid brass cover plates and trim" that "swings in both directions". Page 3-12 lists "Maximum Door Weight 90 LBS", "Holds Open at 85 ~ 90 degrees" and "Universal Handing". Door thickness: 1-3/8 and 1-3/4 on the DASH95 page and 1-3/8" ~ 1-3/4" in the catalog's feature list, but 7/8" ~ 1-3/8" on the label beside the catalog table; confirm before ordering.
DASHS saloon hinges are stainless steel; Deltana calls them "a surface mounted residential hinge that allows the door to swing in both directions". Page 3-12 prints:

- Number of Hinges per Door: 'As a general rule, you will want to use 1 hinge per every 30" of door or fraction thereof. Referring to door height: Doors up to 60" need 2 hinges, doors over 60" but not over 90" need 3 hinges and doors over 90" but not over 120" need 4 hinges.'
- Location of Hinge on the Door: 'Upper hinge 5" from top jamb to top edge of barrel. Bottom hinge 10" from bottom edge of barrel to finished floor. Middle centered between top and bottom hinges.'
