Hager Roton Continuous Geared Hinges: Concealed, Full and Half Surface Models, Duty, Lengths

Roton is the name Hager Companies (Hager) gives its continuous geared hinges. Based on Hager's 2026 Roton Continuous Hinges price book (pages dated 08/07/2026), this guide explains Roton profiles, models, duty, lengths, finishes and our titles; page numbers refer to it. For continuous hinge basics, see our door hinge types guide.

Roton hinges: concealed, full surface and half surface

Page 8 sorts the models into three groups:

  • Concealed - parallel, fully concealed leaves; designed primarily for new doors and frames.
  • Half surface - one leaf concealed, one surface mounted; also primarily for new doors and frames.
  • Full surface - designed for retrofit; mounted to the exposed surface of the door and frame, with no special dimensioning.

Page 8 adds conditions for retrofit use of the first two. We list each model number below (not every duty, length or finish); see Hager Companies and our continuous hinges.

Concealed Roton models

Unless noted, the concealed 780 model pages give 5/16 in. hinge side clearance.

  • 780-111 (standard, HD, LL) - 1-3/4 in. doors, 1/8 in. inset.
  • 780-112 (standard, HD, LL) - 1-3/4 in. doors, both leaves 1-9/16 in.
  • 780-224 (standard, HD, LL) - 1-3/4 in. doors, door edge protection lip, 3/32 in. inset. See 780-224HD 95 CLR.
  • 780-226HD (HD, LL) - doors 2 in. or thicker.
  • 780-124HD (HD, LL) - deep inset or flush-with-frame (with rabbeted frames) applications, center hung doors, heavy cabinets.
  • 780-110HD - doors 1 in. to 1-3/8 in.
  • 780-113HD - 13/16 in. hinge side clearance, 1/16 in. inset; Hager calls it a safety hinge for early education centers and nursing homes when used without a frame stop.
  • 780-041HD - swing-clear action for 1-3/4 in. doors; not recommended for a beveled edge on the hinge side.
  • 1200-600XHD (doors 1-3/4 in. to 2-3/8 in.) and 1200-650XHD (2-3/8 in. or thicker) - extra heavy duty. See 1200-600XHD 83 DBA.

Full surface Roton models

  • 780-157 (standard, HD) - doors up to 1-3/4 in., for surface applications where frame face dimension is limited; 1/16 in. inset. See 780-157 83 CLR.
  • 780-210 (standard, HD) - doors up to 1-3/4 in., any door and frame material; needs a 1-5/8 in. minimum frame face plus 3/16 in. rotational clearance. See 780-210HD 119 CLR.
  • 780-057HD - doors 1-3/8 in. to 2-1/4 in.; bi-fold applications.

Half surface Roton models

All five recommend at least 5/32 in. hinge side clearance and list doors up to 1-3/4 in.

  • 780-053 (standard, HD) and 780-054HD - 1/8 in. inset.
  • 780-045HD and 780-046HD - 9/32 in. inset; the 780-046HD adds complete frame rabbet coverage for 1-3/4 in. frames with 1-3/8 in. doors.
  • 780-155HD - for center hung and double egress conversions.

Roton duty: standard, HD, LL and XHD

Page 2 states: "780 Series Roton continuous geared hinges are approved per ANSI A156.26 Grade 1 for 150 lb. doors" and "780 Series Roton heavy duty hinges are approved per ANSI A156.26 Grade 1 for 300 lb. doors."

  • Standard duty (no letter in the title; SD on page 14) - medium frequency doors.
  • HD, heavy duty - high frequency doors or heavy, medium frequency doors.
  • LL, lead lined - hospital x-ray room doors; heavy duty only on the 780 models.
  • XHD, extra heavy duty - the 1200 Series pages say "Strong enough to swing doors heavier than 600 lbs., wider than 4 feet, and taller than 10 feet."

Page 6: 16 bearings on a typical 7 ft door in the 780 Series, 32 in 780 HD and LL.

Roton lengths: 79, 83, 85, 95 and 119 inch

Standard lengths (page 3):

Nominal door heightStandard length
6'8"79 in.
7'0"83 in.
7'2"85 in.
8'0"95 in.
10'0"119 in.

Hager trims non-standard hinges from the bottom only; hinges over 119 in. must be ordered as two sections.

Roton finishes: clear, dark bronze and black

Page 3 lists satin etched, clear anodized aluminum (similar to US28), dark bronze, or black exterior anodized coating. Hager's item names abbreviate them CLR, DBA and BLA; our titles use CLR, DBA or DKB, and BLK.

How to read a Roton part number

The HOW TO ORDER line on page 2 splits into series, profile, length, finish and pack: 780, 112HD, 119", CLR, 1 PK (standard single pack). These two titles keep that order (no pack), adding modification and handing; some other Roton titles put the finish before the length, as in 780-157HD-DKB-83:

  • 780-112 83 CLR ETW-4 RH - profile 112, standard duty, 83 in., clear, electric through-wire with 4 wires, right hand.
  • 780-046HD 83 CLR EPT LH - half surface profile 046, heavy duty, 83 in., clear, power transfer preparation, left hand.

Electric Roton hinges: ETW, EMN, EPT

From pages 11-15:

  • EPT - leaf cutout for a Von Duprin EPT 2 or EPT 10 power transfer.
  • ETW - concealed through-wire, 4, 8, 10 or 12 continuous 28-gauge conductors.
  • RETW - removable 10 or 12 wire ETW module, only on the heavy duty models page 12 lists.
  • EMN - concealed monitoring switch in the frame leaf.
  • ETM - through-wire plus monitoring.
  • E1S - exposed push button switch monitoring door position.
  • E plus a number - exposed contacts that transfer power with the door closed (at least two).

The page 15 table shows which models take each one. Each is ordered with the handing and the dimension from the top edge of the door to its centerline; page 14 gives Hager's standard locations. Our door handing chart explains LH and RH.

Fire rating and installation notes

Pages 5-6 cover UL fire rating file A14627 and the door and frame combinations that require a stud, noting: "Several hinge models cannot be fire-rated. Check each profile." Confirm the rating for your hinge and opening with Hager and your authority having jurisdiction. Page 7 says fasteners and installation instructions are furnished with each hinge.
