Ives Flush Bolt Templates: FB31P, FB51P, FB458 and Other Ives Flush Bolts

The Ives template index lists a door preparation template for each flush bolt model in the Ives catalog. This page links the official templates for the FB31P, FB51P, FB458 and other Ives flush bolts we carry, shows what each drawing covers and explains the model numbers in our product names.

Ives flush bolt templates (official PDFs)

The links open PDF files on the Allegion (Ives) website. The Ives index Flush Bolts and Coordinators - Door Preparation Templates lists all of them.

Automatic, constant latching or manual flush bolt

The Ives catalog says flush bolts are used on pairs of doors to secure the inactive leaf, projecting into the frame head and into a floor strike.

  • Automatic: the bolts extend when the active door closes and retract when it is opened.
  • Constant latching: the inactive door stays latched until the active door is opened, which releases the automatic bottom bolt; the top bolt can then be released by hand.
  • Manual (FB358, FB457, FB458): a lever is moved up to retract the bolt and down to project it.

The catalog lists all of these models as non-handed (see our door handing chart).

Ives FB31P template: what it shows

  • Page 1: installation steps, vertical rod adjustment, the strike, the reversible bolt guide and a screw table.
  • Page 2: the rub plate and its location on the active door edge, side views of the FB31T and FB31B, and basic dimensions.
  • Notes printed on the template: install the coordinator before the automatic flush bolts; recommended clearance between doors 1/8 inch; maximum undercut 1 inch; optional dust proof strikes are covered by the DP1 and DP2 templates.

The catalog gives the FB31 body as 1 x 6-3/4 x 2 inches, with a 3/4 inch bolt throw and backset, and states that it fits standard ANSI/BHMA A115.4 door frame preparations.

FB51P template: constant latching bolts for metal doors

The FB51 template covers the same items on two pages. It draws the pair as an FB51T top bolt with an FB31B bottom bolt and adds separate drawings of the top strike and the bottom strike. Its notes give the same clearance, undercut and dust proof strike information.

FB458 and FB457 templates: manual bolts for metal doors

Each is a one-page drawing of the strike, the guide and the bolt, with installation steps and a screw table. Note 1 gives dimension A (bolt body center to bolt tip) as 12 inches standard and lists optional sizes of 6, 9, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 48 inches; note 2 says the door must have at least 1/4 inch undercut. The current Ives catalog limits optional rods to the top bolt, with conditions; check it before ordering a longer rod.

The face is 1-1/4 inches wide on the FB457 and 1 inch on the FB458.

Wood door templates: FB41, FB61 and FB358

The FB41 and FB61 templates show the top and bottom bolts at the corners of the door, with side views, basic dimensions, strikes and the rub plate. The FB61 pair is drawn as an FB61T top bolt with an FB41B bottom bolt. The notes give a 1/8 inch recommended clearance between doors and a 3/4 inch maximum undercut. The one-page FB358 template draws the strike, guide and bolt; its note 1 asks for at least 1/4 inch undercut. The catalog says the FB358 requires only a simple router mortise at the top and bottom corners of the door and is not available for rabbeted door installations.

Top bolt with auxiliary fire latch: FB32, FB33, FB42, FB52, FB53, FB62

According to the catalog, the auxiliary fire latch in these models eliminates the bottom bolt, and the FB33 and FB53 include a retrofit plate to cover an existing bottom bolt prep. The installation steps name the top bolt used: the FB31 for the FB32 and FB33, the FB41 for the FB42, the FB51T for the FB52 and FB53 and the FB61T for the FB62. The third page, nearly identical in all six, shows the edge preparation for the latch in one leaf and for the strike hole and its plug in the other. The Ives price book lists the auxiliary fire latch for the FB32, FB42, FB52 and FB62 as part FBPART.1035.

Dust proof strikes DP1 and DP2

The catalog lists both as accessories on the FB31, FB41, FB51, FB61, FB358, FB457 and FB458 pages and describes a spring-loaded plunger that returns to floor or threshold level whenever the bolt is retracted. The DP1 has a round face plate and the DP2 a rectangular one.

How to read the model numbers in our product names

A product name such as Ives FB31P-12-MD US32D reads like this:

  • FB31 - the model; P, T or B - pair (top and bottom bolt), top bolt only or bottom bolt only.
  • 12 - the rod length in inches (bolt body center to bolt tip), the catalog standard; longer rods are top bolt options with conditions. Our catalog also lists -24 versions such as the FB31P-24-MD US32D.
  • MD - in the price book, part of the FB31, FB32, FB33, FB51, FB52 and FB53 (metal door) numbers. Wood door models carry WD and no rod length, for example FB41P-WD US32D; the FB457 and FB458 carry only the rod length.
  • US32D - the finish, satin stainless steel (BHMA 630). Other codes are in our finish codes chart.

The Ives price book prints the 261, 262 and 265 with the finish joined to the model, for example 262B26D for the 262 in satin chrome. Some names in our catalog join the finish where the price book does not: FB35826D is the FB358 US26D (satin chrome).
