Emtek Item Numbers Explained: Rosettes, Knobs, Levers and Finish Codes

An Emtek knob or lever set number such as 8121PUS7 follows the choices made in Emtek's own online configurator: function and rosette, knob or lever, finish. This guide reads those parts from Emtek's website and technical specifications, so you can tell which variant a product page shows before you order.

How to read an Emtek item number: 8121PUS7

On emtek.com, choosing the Providence Knob, the French Antique (US7) finish, the Rectangular Rosette and the Passage function gives the number 8121PUS7:

  • 8121: the function and the rosette, here passage with the Rectangular Rosette
  • P: the knob, here Providence
  • US7: the finish, here French Antique

Our page for this set is Emtek 8121PUS7 Providence Passage Knob, Rectangular Rose.

On the same brass rosette, the four digits stay the same for a knob or a lever. With the Wilshire Rosette, the passage number is 8161 for both the Providence knob and the Helios lever; with the Quincy Rosette it is 8131 for both. Emtek's pages for both designs say they "can be ordered with any Brass rosette".

Emtek passage, privacy and dummy numbers by rosette

The configurator numbers for the Providence knob (first four rows) and the Helios lever (last three):

RosettePassage, privacyDummy
Regular8100, 82008050
Rectangular8121, 82218521
#88108, 82088058
Oval8120, 82208520
Disk5109, 52095059
Square5110, 52105050
Modern Rectangular5112, 52125052

In all seven rows, passage and privacy differ only in the second digit: 1 for passage, 2 for privacy. Dummy numbers follow no single rule. Rectangular and Modern Rectangular are different rosettes; some of our 5112 titles shorten Modern Rectangular to Rectangular Rose or Modern Rose, so go by the number. For the Helios passage lever, other rosettes give 5107 (Modern), 5111 (Neos) and 5316 (Urban Modern).

Passage and privacy are explained in our lock functions guide. Emtek's glossary says dummy sets have no latch, require no bore hole and are surface mounted to the door.

Knob and lever codes

The letters after the four digits name the knob or lever. Emtek's technical specifications for passage and privacy sets print the code next to each design, for example:

CodeDesign
PProvidence knob
NWNorwich knob
OTOld Town glass knob
ROURound knob
FRKFreestone knob
FRLFreestone lever
HLOHelios lever
STUStuttgart lever
MEMerrimack lever

The same name can carry other letters in another line: the brass Helios lever is HLO, the stainless steel one HL, as in S10002HLLHSS (stainless Helios passage, Disk Rosette, left hand).

Left and right hand (LH, RH) and the C numbers

Emtek's glossary says levers and some handle grips are right or left handed; our door handing chart shows how to tell. For the Helios passage lever on the Disk Rosette, the configurator gives 5109HLOLHUS15 and 5109HLORHUS15. Our titles put the hand after the finish code and spell it out, as in Emtek 5109HLOUS15RH Helios Right-Hand Passage Lever. The Providence knob numbers carry no hand, and our 8121PUS7 and 8521PUS15 pages list "Handing: Reversible".

For the passage and privacy sets in the table, the configurator also returns a number with a leading C, such as C8121PUS7 or C5109HLOUS15, and the C numbers of levers have no LH or RH. Our page for the C8121MEUS7 Merrimack passage lever describes that item as "with CF Mechanism". According to Emtek's FAQ, the Concealed Fastener (CF) Mechanism leaves no visible screws on the interior rosette, needs no handing on levers and fits doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick as standard.

Emtek finish codes: French Antique, Polished Nickel and others

Emtek prints US codes or its own letter codes, with these names; the Emtek pages we used give no BHMA numbers.

CodeEmtek name
US3Polished Brass
US3NLUnlacquered Brass
US4Satin Brass
US7French Antique
US10BOil Rubbed Bronze
US14Polished Nickel
US15Satin Nickel
US15APewter
US19Flat Black
US26Polished Chrome
MBMedium Bronze
TWBTumbled White Bronze
FBFlat Black Bronze

Not every finish is offered on every item: Emtek's Providence knob page lists 10 finishes, the Helios lever page 7, and the bronze Rustic Modern Rectangular cabinet pull only MB, TWB and FB.

Emtek's FAQ adds that the base metal matters: Flat Black (US19) on brass and Flat Black Bronze (FB) on bronze look similar but not the same, and brass finishes are not applied to non-brass hardware.

Go by the code, not the color name: some of our titles call US7 Antique Brass and a few call US14 Bright Nickel. The Attributes list shows the Finish Code, as on our 8121PUS7 page (Finish Code: US7). If the words in a title do not match the number, ask us before you order. To compare with other brands, see our door hardware finish codes chart.

Cabinet pulls, door stops and hinge pivot stops

Emtek's cabinet pages show a five-digit number followed by the finish, for example 86421US14 for the Art Deco cabinet knob in Polished Nickel. The size is part of the number: on Emtek's Modern Edge Pull page, 87120 is the pull with 6 inch centers (7-1/4 inches overall) and 87130 the one with 8 inch centers (9-1/4 inches overall), as on our 87120US15 Edge cabinet pull in Satin Nickel.

Emtek's website writes some accessory numbers without the letters US. The 4 inch Classic Door Stop in Oil Rubbed Bronze is 223110B there (2232 is the 3 inch size); our page is titled 2231US10B. The Pivot Hinge Stop is 224110B on Emtek's site and 2241US10B on ours; Emtek's page notes that it requires the Extended Button Tip with solid brass hinges and is not compatible with any steel residential duty hinges.

What to have ready when you order

  • Function, knob or lever, rosette and finish code: together they give the number.
  • For levers, the hand of the door (not needed with CF).
  • Backset: the standard latch is for 2-3/8 inch; Emtek's set pages ask you to specify 2-3/4 inch if required.
  • Door thickness: Emtek's specifications give 1-1/4 to 2 inches as standard for Providence and Helios, with extended components for thicker doors; some lines, such as stainless steel, have other ranges.
