Jacknob Pilaster Shoes, Anchor Packs and Headrail: Sizes and Installation Instructions

Jacknob pilaster shoes carry their size in the product name, while the mounting drawings for anchor packs and headrail parts are on separate one-page Jacknob sheets. This page explains how to read a Jacknob pilaster shoe size and links the Jacknob installation instructions and drawings for the parts we list.

Jacknob installation instructions for anchor packs and headrail packs

Each sheet below is a one-page Jacknob PDF with an assembly drawing. For mounting, follow the Jacknob sheet for your part.

Jacknob line drawings: pilaster shoe sizes, headrail and brackets

Jacknob's part pages call these one-page PDFs line drawings. Each shoe drawing covers one series and lists the inside dimension "A" for each part number. This is a selection; other widths and heights have their own sheets.

The linked sheets dated 2018 and later carry the note "All dimensions shown are approximate. Do not predrill or fabricate based on dimensions shown." Not every part has a sheet: Jacknob's Pilaster Anchoring Packs group showed a line drawing for 11 of its 24 parts when we checked. If a link fails, look up the part number on Jacknob's website.

Where these parts are in the Jacknob catalog

The Jacknob catalog (PDF, 172 pages) gives a photo, a short description and a table of part numbers for each group below, without mounting drawings. Page numbers are the printed ones; in the PDF file add 10.

The Jacknob catalog page hosted on our site, page 5 of an earlier catalog (PDF), charts pivot hinge replacement packs, not shoes, anchors or headrail.

How to read a Jacknob pilaster shoe size

Jacknob names a shoe by three dimensions: on Jacknob's website part 34129 is PILASTER SHOE 12"L X 1"W X 3"H. Our title for the 4 inch high version is Jacknob 44129 12" Pilaster Shoe - 1" W x 4" H.

  • L: the Length column of the catalog, 2 to 24 inches for sleeve style shoes.
  • W: Width in the catalog, Thickness in the part details on Jacknob's website; it equals the post size printed above each catalog table (3/4, 7/8, 1 or 1-1/4 inch for sleeve style shoes).
  • H: the shoe height, 3 or 4 inches.

For sleeve style, open end and offset shoes the catalog states: "All measurements reflect the finished size of the pilaster." L and W are therefore the size of the pilaster. On the 34009 series drawing the inside dimension of the 12 inch shoe is 12-1/32 inches.

Style words in the name, in Jacknob's descriptions:

  • Sleeve style (no extra word): mounted on the bottom of the pilaster; covers the pilaster's anchoring system.
  • Open end, such as 32245: "Shoes are only welded at one end to allow for easy replacement of damaged shoes."
  • Offset, such as 54249: 4 inches high, with a wider bottom to cover an anchoring system wider than the pilaster thickness.
  • Anchor style, such as 30049: 3 inches high; the catalog lists screw pack 419 for mounting one shoe to the floor.

Anchoring and headrail parts we list

  • Anchor packs: floor packs such as 31056 and ceiling packs such as 119739; the catalog says ceiling mount kits are for posts that are also floor mounted.
  • Pilaster support brackets: per the catalog also known as pilaster feet, for pilasters which do not come to the floor; the stamped 135039 is the 1-1/4 inch size.
  • Pilaster mounting bars: per the catalog they secure posts to the floor; 65129 is listed for a 12 inch post.
  • Headrail: Antigrip aluminum headrail for 3/4, 1 and 1-1/4 inch posts; the catalog lists 8-1/2, 10 and 12 foot lengths, for example 80042.
  • Headrail parts: wall brackets such as 2169, connector packs such as 15782, end plugs and bracing packs.

"Cross Instructions" in our Jacknob product titles

Some of our Jacknob titles end in "Cross Instruction", "Cross Instructions" or "with Installation Instructions", for example Jacknob 15799 Headrail Bracing Pack (3) Angle Brackets - Cross Instructions. These listings are the hardware itself, not an instruction sheet. On the pages we checked, the words stand where Jacknob's own part name has CRSS: Jacknob's website names this part HEADRAIL BRACING PACK (3) ANGLE BRACKETS - CRSS. We counted 24 part names with CRSS in Jacknob's pilaster anchoring and headrail groups, all 24 listed as stainless steel. The title is not a promise of a printed sheet in the pack.
