Kingston Brass Side Sprayer Repair: KSRP1271D and KSRP1241D Spray Diverters, Hoses and Side Sprayers

Water seeps out of the side sprayer although nobody is pressing it, or the sprayer leaks along its hose. Kingston's repair article traces a leaking side sprayer to four places. One of them is the spray diverter inside the faucet, and two Kingston diverters, KSRP1271D and KSRP1241D, come with Kingston's own lists of compatible faucet series.

Side sprayer leaking: head, diverter, hose or connection?

Kingston's article How to Fix a Leaking Kitchen Side Sprayer sorts leaks by source:

  • Sprayer head: a frequent source, according to Kingston. Water from the nozzle or the seams may point to it.
  • Spray diverter: an internal part of the main faucet that directs water between the faucet and the side sprayer. When it wears out, water can leak from the side sprayer even when its lever has not been pressed.
  • Hose: cracks, kinks or holes along its length.
  • Connection points: loose fittings or worn seals where the hose meets the faucet or the spray head.

Under the sink, the article says, the hose is usually connected to a tee connector on the faucet. Once the leak is found, its next step is to turn off the water supply; it also covers the O-rings at the joints.

Which Kingston Brass spray diverter fits: KSRP1271D or KSRP1241D

Kingston describes both as plastic spray diverters for kitchen faucets with side sprays, for use on Kingston Brass faucets after checking the model for compatibility. What separates them is the list of faucet series on each product page:

  • KSRP1271D: KB111x, KB175x, KB179x, KB311x, KB374x, KB375x, KB711x, KB775x, KB779x, KS127x, KS279x, KS327x, KS329x, KS727x, KS825x, KS826x, KS827x, KS828x, KS837x, KS873x, KS874x and KS876x series.
  • KSRP1241D: KB112x, KB122x, KB272x, KB879x, KS124x, KS126x, KS129x, KS176x, KS177x, KS179x, KS244x, KS676x, KS872x and KS879x series.

Match the start of your faucet's model number to a series. In the faucets named next, the x is the finish digit from our guide to Kingston Brass model numbers and finish codes; in the Polished Chrome KS1271ALBS it is the 1. That puts the KS1271ALBS Heritage bridge faucet in KS127x and the KB7751BLBS English Vintage 8 inch centerset faucet in KB775x, both on the KSRP1271D list. The KS2441ALBS Heritage wall-mount faucet falls under KS244x, on the KSRP1241D list.

Kingston's FAQ says the model number may be on the outside of the box or on your original invoice. If your series is on neither list, do not assume either diverter fits: check your own faucet's documents or call us.

Replacing the diverter: Kingston's repair instructions

Kingston's page for each diverter links its own repair sheet, and the two jobs differ down to the wrench.

KSRP1271D in KS127*ALBS faucets

The Repair Instruction Manual for KS127*ALBS Diverter (PDF) is written for that series, which includes the KS1271ALBS. It calls for needle nose pliers and a 12 mm hex Allen wrench:

  1. Turn the bottom portion of the spout counter-clockwise by hand and lift the spout off.
  2. Unthread the diverter at the bottom of the well with the Allen wrench.
  3. Pull it out with the pliers.
  4. Thread the new diverter in, about 4-5 turns with the wrench.
  5. Turn the spout back on clockwise by hand.

Kingston links the same sheet from its KB7751BLBS faucet page. Other series on the KSRP1271D list may come apart differently.

KSRP1241D diverter

The sheet linked from the KSRP1241D page is the Repair Instruction Manual for KBRP112D/KSRP1241D Diverter (PDF), and Kingston links the same file from its KS2441ALBS wall-mount faucet page. Here the wrench is 10 mm. The adapter beneath the spout is loosened by hand or with pliers and the spout pulled out; the diverter comes out counter-clockwise, the sheet says to clean out any debris inside the body, and the new one goes in clockwise before the spout is refitted.

Local plumbing codes apply to any of this work.

Side sprayer and sprayer hose replacement

If the broken or damaged part cannot be replaced on its own, the article says a full side sprayer replacement may be needed. The KBSPR6AC, a brass side sprayer in Antique Copper from Kingston's Made To Match line, replaces an existing side spray and can only be used with side spray compatible faucets, according to its page. It comes with a 60 inch gray braided PVC hose and has a 1/4-18 NPS connection. Its page carries the warning "Never to be installed directly to a supply line, stop valve or other continuous pressure source". Kingston adds that antiqued finishes such as Antique Copper vary slightly from lot to lot, so Kingston does not guarantee an exact match between items.

A worn hose can be replaced on its own. Kingston lists KBSH601, a 60 inch side sprayer hose, as the compatible hose for the KS1271ALBS and KB7751BLBS, which both come with a 60 inch hose. Its page gives 1/4-18 NPSM at the faucet end and 1/2-14 NPSM at the sprayer end and asks you to check the size and thread type of your sprayer and faucet. Not every faucet uses it: the KS2441ALBS comes with a 30 inch hose, and its page lists KBSPRHOSE301. Look for the hose under Compatible Parts on Kingston's page for your faucet.

The same two faucet pages list KBSPREXTNUT as the side sprayer extension nut. Its page says it gives the sprayer holder extra clearance on extra thick countertops, with an extra 1-15/16 inch inlet extension for marble and granite, and that it fits KBSPR1 and KBSPR11 style brass sprayers.

Pull-down faucets: the hose runs through the spout

A pull-down faucet is a different repair. On the LS2721DKL Kaiser, the hose runs through the spout housing and the faucet body. Kingston's Repair Instruction Manual for Pull Down Kitchen Faucet Hose (PDF) has the spray head unscrewed, the spout housing released by pressing the white plastic inside its hole with a 3-5 mm pin, and the new hose fed in from the outlet of the spout housing. The LS2721DKL page lists LSSPRHOSE591 as its hose; for another model, go by the hose its own page lists.

When a part is no longer offered

Kingston's FAQ warns that for a discontinued Kingston Brass item, Kingston may not carry replacement parts. For an older faucet, confirm the full model number before you order.
