LCN Door Closer Parts: How to Identify Arms, Covers and Plates

LCN door closer parts are ordered by the closer series and a part number suffix, plus the finish, hand or size where LCN's parts list asks for them. This page shows where to find the series on a closer, how LCN numbers arms, covers, plates and shoes, and how those numbers appear in our product names.

Find the closer series first

The How to Order steps in LCN's parts manual begin with the closer series, such as 4110, 4040XP or 1460, then select the part by series and suffix. Where to look:

  • LCN's Replacement Parts page, which also links the parts manual, says most products have the series or model on them, and spring tube products have a label on the cylinder.
  • According to Allegion's knowledge center, on most surface mounted closers the model number and date code are stamped into the packing nut around the pinion shaft.
  • Casting or forging numbers such as "71" or "320G" on a cylinder assembly do not identify a particular part, the parts manual warns.

LCN also asks how the closer is mounted: hinge (pull side), top jamb (push side), parallel arm (push side) or concealed.

How LCN names series and models

  • In LCN's price book, the 1000 Series section lists the 1250, 1260, 1450 and 1460, and the 4000 Series section the 4000T, 4010, 4020, 4030, 4040XP, 4050A and 4110.
  • A T at the end of a series name marks a track version: the price book calls the 1450T and 1460T single lever (track) arm closers and the 4010T and 4110T track closers.
  • Some series are ordered under a different model number: the 4010 Series is available as 4011 (adjustable 1-5) or 4016 (size 6 only), the 4110 Series as 4111 or 4116, and the 1460 configurations use model 1461, whose cylinder assembly is 1461-3071.
  • LCN 4041: in the price book's 4040XP section, a closer with the delayed action cylinder (CYLDEL) takes the model number 4041 (4041 . CYLDEL . REGARM).

How an LCN part number is built

The parts manual orders a part by the closer series and a suffix; its ordering examples include 4040XP-62PA (parallel arm shoe) and 4010-18 (plate). Suffixes from the 4040XP parts list of the price book:

SuffixPart
-3071Cylinder assembly
-3077Regular arm
-3077EDAExtra duty (EDA) arm
-3077CNSCush-N-Stop arm
-3049Hold open arm
-3049EDAHold open EDA arm (handed)
-72Standard cover
-72MCMetal cover (handed)
-18, -18PA, -18TJPlates
-62PA, -62APA shoe, auxiliary shoe
-30Cush shoe support
-61Spacer

Numbers built on -3077, -3049, -72 and -18 appear in the parts lists of all ten non-track series in the 1000 and 4000 Series sections, though not always in plain form: the 4110 list has 4110-3077/62A but no plain 4110-3077. Cush-N-Stop arms end in CNS in six of the eight lists that have them, and in CUSH for the 1250 and 1260 (1250-3077CUSH).

LCN door closer arm types

For a complete closer, the price book writes the arm as a code after the model, as in 4040XP . RWPA . [Finish]. From its glossary:

CodeArm
REGARMRegular arm
RWPARegular arm with parallel arm bracket
LONGLong arm
HHold open arm
EDAExtra duty arm
HEDAHold open extra duty arm
CUSHCush-N-Stop arm
FLFusible link arm

For the 4040XP, the 4000 Series catalog adds that the regular and hold open arms need the 4040XP-62PA shoe for parallel arm mounting and that only the hold open EDA arms are handed. LCN's 4040XP pull side installation instructions note that hold open arms must not be installed on fire rated doors.

Covers

For the 4040XP, the catalog lists the non-handed plastic cover 4040XP-72 and the metal cover 4040XP-72MC, which is handed and required for plated finishes and custom powder coat finishes. The price book lists other types for other series, such as the full plastic cover 1450-72FC.

Plates, shoes and spacers

What the 4000 Series catalog says about these 4040XP parts:

  • 4040XP-18 plate: required for hinge side mount where the top rail is less than 3-3/4 inches.
  • 4040XP-18PA plate: required for parallel arm mounting where the top rail is less than 5-1/2 inches, measured from the stop.
  • 4040XP-30 CUSH shoe support: anchorage for a fifth screw with CUSH arms, where the reveal is less than 3-1/16 inches.
  • 4040XP-61 blade stop spacer: required to lower the parallel arm shoe to clear a 1/2 inch blade stop.

Other series have their own versions, such as 1450-30 or 4110-61; order them under your closer's series.

When LCN documents print a number differently

  • The 2021 parts manual lists the 4040XP mounting plates as 4040-18, 4040-18PA and so on; the 2026 price book as 4040XP-18, 4040XP-18PA.
  • The 4040XP delay cylinder is 4041-3071 DEL in the catalog, 4041-3071DEL in the parts manual and 4040-3071DEL in the price book.

A part missing from the parts manual may be obsolete, the manual says. If the number on your old part or document does not match our product names, send us that number.

How our product names show LCN part numbers

  • Titles of the LCN parts shown below this post start with LCN and the part number, with the finish and, on handed parts, RH or LH: LCN 4040XP-3077-AL, LCN 1460-3049EDA RH 689, LCN 4040XP-72MC RH 632 US3.
  • Some titles run it all together: LCN 4040XP72MCALLH is a left hand 4040XP metal cover in aluminum finish.
  • The finish appears as LCN's finish number, its abbreviation or both; the price book pairs them: 689 Aluminum (AL), 693 Gloss Black (GLBLK), and for plated finishes 632 Bright Brass (US3).
  • Match by the LCN part number in the title; the short description under it is a summary, not a specification. Where a page has Attributes, check the Series line and, where shown, Handing.
