Morris Compression and Mechanical Lugs: Reading the Spec Sheet

Morris Products catalog pages list lugs in tables by catalog number, with columns such as wire range, stud size, color code and dimensions. This page links the Morris documents for compression lugs, mechanical lugs and C-taps and shows how to find your row.

Morris lug catalog pages and spec sheets

On morrisproducts.com (Connectors and Tools menus), the Documents tab of each product group below linked these catalog pages in October 2026; the spec sheets are on the same site. This is a selection of Morris lug documents.

From the number in our title to the Morris row

In our titles, such as Morris 94362 or Morris 90735B, the number is the Morris catalog number. Use the product name and description to pick the family (copper or aluminum, compression or mechanical, one or two holes), then find the number in the Cat. No. column. Example: 94362 is on the copper long barrel 2 hole page: 3/0 Str., 1/2 inch stud, 1-3/4 inch hole spacing, Orange.

A number missing from a catalog page can still be on the spec sheet for its range: 91311B is on the undated 91310-91318B spec sheet but not on catalog page 24. On that sheet and on pages 25 and 27, each B number has a larger box quantity than the same number without B, for example 91312 (box of 50) and 91312B (box of 1,000).

If our page and the Morris document disagree, follow Morris and tell us.

What a Morris compression lug table shows

  • Cat. No.
  • Wire Range: a conductor size such as 6 Str., 2/0 Str. or 250 MCM.
  • Stud Size: for example #10, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 inch.
  • Hole Spacing: on the copper two-hole pages, for example 5/8, 1 or 1-3/4 inch.
  • Color Code (headed Color on pages 16-17).
  • Dimensions: letters A, C, J, B, D, F, E, G and PL, plus S on the two-hole pages, keyed to the drawing on the same page. On the two-hole drawings, S is drawn between the two holes.
  • Box Qty.

For the same wire size, the copper and aluminum pages give different colors: 4/0 is Purple on the four copper pages, White on the two aluminum pages.

On the copper pages the bullets give material and plating: "High Conductivity Seamless Copper" and "Electro-Tin Plating Resists Corrosion". The copper short barrel pages add an "Inspection Window", the copper long barrel pages "Long Barrel Accommodates Multiple Crimps", and each compression page listed here "Color Coded Die Index and Crimp Marks Printed on Barrel".

Compression and mechanical lugs in Morris's words

Morris's compression lug product pages say "Crimp Marks indicate Proper Crimp Locations". The mechanical pages describe screws: page 24 lists "Set Screw Connectors with a Turn Prevent on the bottom of the Tang", and Morris's product page says the turn-prevent lugs "prevent movement of connector while tightening set screw".

The mechanical tables give Wire Range as a span (800 MCM - 300 MCM for 90735B on page 25), Length, Width and Height, and Stud Size or Bolt Size; the panel board page adds Hole Space (1.38 inch for 90914).

Page 27 also prints a table headed "Mechanical Lug Torque Values", and the 91310-91318B spec sheet a "Torque Chart". We do not repeat the values; follow the document for your lug.

Dual rated lugs: aluminum and copper conductors

  • Aluminum compression lugs (pages 8 and 9): "AL9CU Listed - For Both Aluminum and Copper Conductors" and "Pre-filled with Oxide Inhibitor".
  • Aluminum mechanical lugs (pages 24, 25 and 27, all headed Dual Rated): "Dual Rated for both Copper and Aluminum Conductors" (page 25).
  • Copper compression lugs: the copper pages carry no dual rating statement.
  • Copper mechanical lugs (page 28): "Suitable For Use With Copper Wire Only".

Crimp tools, dies and color codes

  • The compression pages give a color per row and say the die index is printed on the barrel; they have no die number column.
  • The C-tap page has a Die Color column; for 91813 it is Blue.
  • Page K1 lists crimp tools 50006 and 50007 with "Self Contained Rotating Dies in Crimp Head" by wire range, noting "50006 does not include #2 Die".
  • It also lists mechanical crimp indentor tools 50008, 50010 and 50015 with "No Dies To Order, No Dies to Lose"; for 50010 the range is 8 - 4/0 AWG AL, 8 - 250 MCM CU. Numbers 51002 and 51004 to 51007 are replacement parts for these tools.

Apart from the die colors on the C-tap page, none of the Morris documents listed here names a tool or die for a given lug number.

Listings and ratings as printed

  • Compression catalog pages: "UL 486AB Listed for Applications Thru 35KV". The spec sheets print "UL 486A Listed for Applications Thru 35KV" (94310-94563) and "UL 486B AL9CU Listed for Applications Thru 35KV" (93110-93133).
  • Turn-prevent lugs (page 24): "Rated 600V".
  • C-taps (page 45): "UL467 Listed & CSA C22.2 No.41 Suitable For Direct Burial & Grounding/Bonding"; 91816, 91817 and 91818 carry an asterisk: "not listed for direct burial, grounding or bonding".

These are catalog pages, not installation instructions. We give no crimping, torque or wiring advice: follow the instructions for your lug and tool, the local electrical code and the authority having jurisdiction, and leave electrical work to a qualified electrician.
