Morris Wire Terminals, Disconnects, Butt Splices and Ferrules: How to Identify a Replacement

Need to reorder a Morris Products ring terminal, fork terminal, disconnect, butt splice or ferrule? This guide shows what to read off the old part, the way Morris prints it, and where each detail appears on our product pages.

Sources: pages D11 to D45 of the Wire Management section of the Morris catalog, Morris spec sheets and Morris product pages, as found on morrisproducts.com in October 2026.

1. The type of terminal, as Morris names it

  • Ring terminals, catalog pages D13 to D18; the multiple-stud rings on page D18 are each listed against #6, #8 and #10 studs.
  • Fork/spade terminals, pages D19 to D23, in plain, locking and flange spade versions. Both words name the same part: 10140 is listed under Vinyl Insulated Spade Terminals (page D19), and its spec sheet says Vinyl Insulated Fork Spade Terminal. For the locking version, the Morris page for 11734 says the "Locking Configuration of Tang ensures a Positive Lock to terminal post".
  • Pin and blade terminals, pages D23 and D24.
  • Disconnects, pages D25 to D30, D33 and D34: male and female, piggyback, flag, bullet and receptacle; page D31 lists Multi-Way Adapters.
  • Butt splices and parallel connectors, pages D35 to D37, including reducing butt splices listed with two wire ranges, such as 16-14 to 22-18.
  • Ferrules, pages D43 to D45: insulated, non-insulated and twin (2 wire) ferrules.

2. Insulation: non-insulated, vinyl, nylon or heat shrink

The catalog headings name the insulation, for example Non-Insulated Ring Terminals, Vinyl Insulated Female Disconnects or Nylon Insulated Butt Splice Connectors. Some disconnects are Nylon Fully Insulated, for example on pages D12 and D28. For heat shrinkable terminals the insulation line reads "High Density PE Heat Shrink" (page D38), on some parts together with nylon. The heat shrinkable parallel splices 12345 to 12348 (page D41) carry the note "This is a Solder (not crimp) termination".

The maximum electric rating line differs between the non-insulated, nylon and vinyl ring terminal tables (pages D13, D15 and D17), so compare it for the old part and the new one.

3. Insulation color and wire size (AWG)

Morris describes "Color Coded insulation for easy identification", for example on the spec sheet for 11378. In the catalog tables for insulated terminals, disconnects and butt splices on pages D11 to D41, these three wire ranges always have the same color (reducing splices, below, combine two):

ColorWire size (AWG)
Red22-16
Blue16-14
Yellow12-10

Color alone is not enough: in the nylon ring terminal table (page D16) and the vinyl butt splice table (page D35), 8 AWG is red, 6 is blue, 4 is yellow and 2 is red again. The nylon butt splice 12142 is yellow for 26-22 AWG (page D36), and reducing butt splices carry two colors, such as "Yellow with Blue Ring" for 12137. The spec sheets for 11378 and 10140, for example, list "Wire range stamped on the surface for easy interpretation", so read the stamped range too.

4. Stud size or tab size

  • Ring and fork terminals: the Stud Size column, printed as a number such as #6 or #10 or as a fraction such as 1/4 or 5/16. The non-insulated ring table on page D13 runs from #2 to 3/4.
  • Male and female disconnects: male or female, and the tab size in the NEMA TAB column (Tab Size on pages D12 and D28), such as .020 x .187 or .032 x .250.
  • Bullet and receptacle disconnects: pages D33 and D34 each list two values in the W column (.157 and .197 on page D33); compare it as well as the color.

5. Wire ferrules: DIN colors and pin length

The insulated ferrule table on page D44 is marked "COLOR CODE: DIN Standard" and gives one wire size per part. Several colors stand for more than one size:

ColorWire size (AWG)
Turquoise24
White22
Grey20 and 12
Black16
Blue14 and 6
Red18, 8 and 2
Yellow26, 10 and 4

Non-insulated ferrules (page D45) list the color code as N/A. One wire size can come in more than one length: the table lists two 10 AWG yellow ferrules, 12754 and 12756, and the spec sheet for 12756 describes a .709 inch pin length.

6. Pack quantity

  • The tables give a Bag Qty, and some numbers also appear with a B suffix and a bigger bag: 11314 comes in bags of 100, 11314B in bags of 1,000 (page D15).
  • The 25 packs on pages D11 and D12 have their own numbers: 01182 is a 25 pack of red 22-16 vinyl butt splices, and 10182, in bags of 100 (page D35), has the same dimensions in the catalog.

Where to find these details on our product pages

On our product pages for the parts listed below, the title starts with Morris and the catalog number, followed by a short description with the insulation. It does not always name the type: for 11092 it says Non-Insulated Electrical Wiring Terminals, and the Terminal Type attribute says Ring.

In the Attributes list under the description, the Description line gives the full part name, such as "Nylon Insulated Locking Fork/Spade Terminals - 12-10 Wire, #6 Stud" for 11734, the same name the Morris website uses; for 01182 it includes 25 Pack. Other lines include Wire Size, Stud Size (rings and forks), Tab Size or Receptacle Size (disconnects), Color, Insulation Type and, for ferrules, Pin Length. The quantity menu steps by the bag: 100, 200, 300, or 25, 50, 75 for 01182. Our pages carry the note "Images may not represent actual product and finish", so go by the catalog number and attributes, not the photo.
