Each Pemko template below is a drawing of the fastener hole pattern of one full mortise geared hinge model in one length. This page links eight Pemko template files hosted on our store, shows how to get from a hinge number such as CFM83HD1 to the right drawing, and explains what a template shows.
Pemko continuous hinge templates (PDF)
Each template in these files takes two pages: the drawing and a "Continued" back page.
- FM templates (PDF, 8 pages) - FM83, FM85, FM95 and FM120.
- FMHD templates (PDF, 8 pages) - FM83HD, FM85HD, FM95HD and FM120HD. The same eight pages are also hosted as FMHDtemplate.pdf.
- FMSLF templates (PDF, 10 pages) - FM79SLF, FM83SLF, FM85SLF, FM95SLF and FM120SLF.
- FMSLF-HD templates (PDF, 10 pages) - FM79SLF-HD, FM83SLF-HD, FM85SLF-HD, FM95SLF-HD and FM120SLF-HD.
- KFM templates (PDF, 10 pages) - KFM83, KFM85, KFM95, KFM101 and KFM120, titled "for Kawneer".
- KFMHD templates (PDF, 10 pages) - KFM83HD, KFM85HD, KFM95HD, KFM101HD and KFM120HD, also "for Kawneer".
- SPFM templates (PDF, 10 pages) - SPFM79, SPFM83, SPFM85, SPFM95 and SPFM120. The SPFM79 sheet is marked as a special order hole pattern.
- WTFM templates (PDF, 6 pages) - WTFM83, WTFM95 and WTFM120.
The sheets are dated November 2003, except KFM83HD (October 2006) and the four FM sheets (April 2005, Rev. 4), and carry the line "Manufacturer reserves the right to make changes without formal notice". For a new project, confirm the current drawing with Pemko.
How to find the template from the hinge number
Each template has a note naming the hinges that "are made to conform to this drawing". Match the whole number in the note, not only its first letters: CFM83HD also starts with CFM83, but FM83 and FM83HD are different drawings. At each end of the hinge, FM83HD shows hole spacings of 3, 3 and 6 inches, FM83 shows 6 and 6.

The numbers in the notes are the template number with a finish letter added. K and WT come before the finish letter (KCFM, WTCFM), SP comes after it (CSPFM). One sheet does not follow the rule: the note on the KFM120HD sheet names KCFM101HD and KDFM101HD.
The number after FM is the hinge length in inches. In all 36 templates listed above, it matches the overall length on the drawing, for example 83 inches (2108 mm) on FM83HD and 120 inches (3048 mm) on FM120HD.
The notes print the numbers without a final 1 (CFM83HD, CFM83SLF-HD). Product numbers on our pages can end in HD1, for example the Pemko CFM83HD1 and the Pemko CFM83SLFHD1. No template mentions HD1. The notes closest to these numbers are CFM83HD on FM83HD and CFM83SLF-HD on FM83SLF-HD (not CFM83SLF on FM83SLF), so confirm with Pemko that the drawing applies to your hinge.

The door sizes come from Pemko's bulletin 80016, "What is the net length of the hinge?". It pairs each ordering length with a nominal door size and gives the net length of Pemko continuous geared hinges as equal to the ordering length. The bulletin also lists 79 inches for a 6'8" door.
What a Pemko FMHD template shows
- At the top: template number and effective date; at the bottom: sheet number (T-7 to T-10).
- A cross-section of the hinge between jamb and door and a view of the hinge opened flat.
- A full-length view of the hinge with the spacing of the fastener holes.
- An enlarged view of the top: the first holes are 1-1/2 inches below the top on FM83HD, FM95HD and FM120HD and 2-1/2 inches on FM85HD; the two holes on each leaf are 7/8 inch apart.
- The machine screw size: No. 12-24 x 7/16 FHUC thread-forming.
- "DO NOT SCALE" and a caution box: due to frame installation variations, pre-drilling for fasteners is not recommended.
- On the back page: fire pin locations (four on the 83, 85 and 95 inch templates, five on FM120HD) and Concealed Circuit (CC) and Magnetic Monitor (MM) notes that refer to the Electrical Application Section of Pemko's technical manual.
The FMHD notes also state that Pemko continuous geared aluminum hinges are listed for fire applications up to 90 minutes without special preparation, and that for 3 hour openings using hollow metal doors and hollow metal frames on masonry or drywall, fire pins (supplied separately) must be used. Fire door requirements depend on the door and frame listing and on your local code, so confirm them before you order.
What FM, HD1, SLF, C and D mean
- FM - full mortise. Pemko's _FM_HD1 instructions describe full mortise units as designed mainly for new doors and frames and applied so as to conceal both leaves.
- HD1 - Pemko's _FM_HD1 cut sheet (revision 3, 2017) describes the hinge as Grade 1 heavy duty, full mortise, with 3 inches between bearing centers.
- SLF - short leaf flush, from the title of Pemko's _FM_SLF cut sheet. The cut sheet drawings show 1-11/16 inch (42.9 mm) from the flange to the end of the leaf on _FM_SLF and 1-7/8 inch (47.6 mm) on _FM_HD1.
- C and D - clear anodized and dark bronze anodized aluminum, according to both cut sheets.
The template notes name only the C and D versions. Our catalog also lists numbers such as the Pemko BSPFM83HD1 (its page names the finish BSP Black Suede; because SPFM is also a template series, do not match it by its letters) and electrified versions with a suffix after HD1, such as the Pemko CFM95HD1-SER12. These numbers do not appear on the templates; the notes on all sheets except WTFM only say that the hinges can be supplied with electric functions and refer to Pemko's Electrical Application Section. For these hinges, confirm the template with Pemko before the door and frame are prepared.
