Replacing an ASI Paper Towel, Toilet Tissue or Soap Dispenser: How to Identify Your Model

Replacing an ASI (American Specialties, Inc.) paper towel, toilet tissue or soap dispenser, napkin disposal or napkin vendor starts with the model number and the measurements ASI prints for it. This guide shows what to read off the old unit and the wall, from ASI's Technical Data Sheets, and which ASI parts we list.

Reading the ASI model number and suffix

Each of the 14 sheets prints the model number at the top ("Model #0457") and in the footer next to the revision. On our store the number follows the brand in the product name (ASI 0457), and some of our part names add a 10- prefix ("Lock and 114 Key for 10-0864 Door").

The sheets we read do not say where the number is marked on the unit itself. If you cannot find it, compare your unit with the figures below.

Match the suffix as well: 0457 is the recessed unit and 0457-2 the semi-recessed one; the 0864 sheet lists 0864-25, 0864-50 and 0864-F for 25 cent, 50 cent and free operation; and ASI's site lists the matte black versions of 0210 and 0347 as 0210-41 and 0347-41.

Mounting: surface mounted, recessed, semi-recessed or partition mounted

Each of the 14 sheets has a Mounting line:

• Surface Mounted: 0030, 0040, 0210, 0347, 0852, 0864 and 8522. The 0030, 0210, 0347 and 0852 sheets name a wall or partition.
• Recessed: 0031, 0457, 0467, 0473 (for side wall installation) and 6457.
• Semi-Recessed: 0457-2, with a 2 inch collar.
• Partition Mounted: 0472, a dual access disposal that serves two compartments.

Rough wall opening of a recessed ASI unit

The sheets of the recessed and semi-recessed units print a Rough Wall Opening (RWO); the partition mounted 0472 sheet prints a Partition Cut Out (PCO) for a partition 1/2 to 3 inches thick. Inches, width x height x depth, as printed:

• The same width and height can come with a different minimum depth: 4 inches for the Traditional 0457, 4-1/4 for the Simplicity 6457, 2 for the semi-recessed 0457-2.
• The same opening is not the same product: 0457 is a towel dispenser and 0473 a sanitary napkin disposal.
• The opening is not the unit size: 0457 itself measures 12-3/4 W x 17-1/4 H x 4-1/4 D.

Size, what it dispenses and capacity

The Dimensions line gives the overall size. Nine of the 14 sheets label it W x H x D; 0852 and 0472 put depth before height. The Capacity line and the overview say what the unit takes:

• Folded towels: 0210 holds 400 C-fold or 525 multi-fold; 0457, 0457-2 and 6457 hold 350 C-fold or 475 multi-fold in the Capacity line (the 0457 overview says 500 multi-fold).
• Roll towels: 8522 is lever operated and takes 8 or 9 inch wide rolls up to 800 ft long.
• Towel and waste: 0467 takes 600 C-fold, 800 multi-fold or 1,100 single-fold towels and 7 gal of waste.
• Toilet tissue: 0030 and 0031 hold two rolls up to 5-1/4 inches in diameter; 0040 holds two 9 inch jumbo rolls on a 2-1/4 or 3 inch core.
• Soap: 0347 holds 40 fl. oz. (1.2 L) of liquid soap; its sheet allows only soap with a viscosity of 100 - 3500 cP and a pH of 5.5 - 8.5.
• Disposals: 0852 holds 1.2 gal, 0472 and 0473 hold 1.5 gal of dry/solids waste.
• Vendor: 0864 holds 30 napkins and 27 tampons; its sheet lists the box and tube sizes.

The ASI collection

ASI's site has pages for five collections: Piatto, Roval, Simplicity, Traditional and Velare. The sheet header shows Simplicity on 6457 and Traditional on 0210, 0457, 0457-2, 0467 and 8522; the other eight sheets print no collection name. A suffix can change it: ASI lists 6457-00 and 6457-41 as Piatto units with a phenolic door; the 6457-00 sheet prints a Finished Wall Opening of 12-13/16 x 17-5/16 x 4-3/4 minimum, not an RWO.

Lock and key

• The 0030 and 0031 sheets name a "tumbler lock keyed alike to other ASI washroom equipment". The 0864 door has two such locks, and its cash drawer opens with a different key than the service door.
• The 0040, 0210 and 6457 sheets name a tumbler lock, the 0457, 0457-2 and 0467 drawings show one, and 8522 has a locking door.
• 0347 is refilled through a hinged door "requiring special key (supplied)", and a locking screw locks the unit in place on its interlocking wedge bracket.
• The 0473 sheet mentions no lock; 0473-1 is the version with lock.

• E-114 - key for ASI standard tumbler locks (standard brass key, single cut)
• L-001 - Lock 46, nut and E-114 key for door
• 0864-001 - lock and 114 key for 10-0864 door
• H-23 - wall bracket key set for 10-0345, 10-0347 and 10-9343
• 0864-011-FN - napkin coin mechanism, free (threaded tip)
• 72-CN - replacement can, named for 10-0472, 10-0473 and 10-0473-A
• 8370 - roll towel mechanism; ASI's sheet says it "is designed for installation into lever manual paper towel dispenser cabinets manufactured by American Specialties, Inc."
