Richelieu Cabinet Pulls and Knobs: How to Read Product Numbers, Sizes and Finish Codes

Richelieu Hardware identifies every cabinet pull and knob by a product number such as BP8160160195. This guide shows how to read that number - series, size and finish - and how Richelieu states sizes, finishes and styles, so you can match a pull you already have or keep a whole kitchen in one finish.

Sources: Richelieu's catalog Decorative Hardware Collections (code COL26/EN, a 156-page PDF on richelieu.com), Richelieu's website and our own product pages. Page numbers are the catalog's printed page numbers.

How to read a Richelieu product number

Page 2 of the catalog explains the code: each Richelieu product is assigned a unique code that "includes a root number (or series name), the center-to-center length for pulls or the diameter for knobs, along with a finish number." Its example is BP8160128140:

  • 8160 - the "Root" or Series Number. Richelieu's website calls it the model and lists the pull as Modern Metal Pull - 8160.
  • 128 - Center-to-center or Diameter: here 128 mm center to center (page 83).
  • 140 - the Finish Number: 140 is Chrome in the catalog's Finish Index.

Read BP8160160195 on our store the same way: model 8160, 160 mm center to center, finish number 195 (Brushed Nickel). The page repeats each part on its own line.

Three details:

  • The catalog table stops before the finish: page 83 lists Ref. No. BP8160160 with the finishes BORB, CHBRZ, 140, 158, 160, 174, 195 and 900; Richelieu's website lists 64 complete numbers for the model - 8 finishes in 8 sizes - such as BP8160160195.
  • The diagram does not mark the letters BP, and the Numerical Index (pages 150-152) lists the example pull as 8160128. Some numbers have no letters: the 128 mm pull of model 9208 in Polished Nickel is 9208128180 on Richelieu's website and on our store.
  • Two finish numbers can follow each other: the catalog lists the knob BP10089 with finishes such as 195/11 (page 133), and our page for BP1008919511 shows Finish Number 195, 11.

The size in the number: mm, inches or a knob diameter

In BP8160128140 and BP8160160195 the middle part is the center-to-center distance in millimeters. The catalog shows other cases, so take the size from the table or from the Center to Center line of the product page, not from the number alone:

  • Inches: on page 113, BP228803 is 3 in center to center and BP228812 is 12 in, while BP228896 on the same page is 96 mm.
  • Appliance pulls: page 83 lists BP8160304 as 12 in and BP8160457 as 18 in, and prints 305 mm - 12 in and 457 mm - 18 in next to the photos.
  • Knobs: BP236332 (BP236332195 in Brushed Nickel) is a knob 32 mm in diameter (page 75), but BP257530 is listed with a 35 mm diameter (page 73), and for the knob BP237850 the table gives only overall dimensions, 50 x 29 mm (page 76).

Richelieu finish numbers and finish names

The Finish Index on pages 148-149 lists Richelieu's finish numbers with their names; some are letters. A selection of those found in product numbers on our store, not the full index:

Finish numberName in the Finish Index
195Brushed Nickel
900Matte Black
140Chrome
BORBBrushed Oil-Rubbed Bronze
CHBRZChampagne Bronze
143Antique Nickel
160Satin Brass
158Brushed Aurum Gold
180Polished Nickel
AEAntique English
174Matte Chrome
990Brushed Black
30White
  • A name on Richelieu's website can differ from the index: CHBRZ is Champagne Bronze in the index and on the model 8160 page, but Brushed Champagne Bronze on the page for the 9898 edge pull. That page adds that CHBRZ on the BP9898 and BP9696 series is matte and recommends matching it only within those two series.
  • The index gives Richelieu's own numbers and names, with no US or BHMA finish codes. For those codes on door hardware see our door hardware finish codes chart.

Richelieu styles: Modern, Transitional, Traditional, Eclectic, Utility

Page 2 of the catalog names five styles, and the Pulls and Knobs Style filter on Richelieu's website has the same five:

  • Modern - "clean lines and balanced shapes"
  • Transitional - "the intersection of classic and contemporary"
  • Traditional - "symmetry and attention to detail"
  • Eclectic - brings together "forms, finishes, and influences"
  • Utility - "efficiency and ease of use"

On Richelieu's website the style word comes first in product names such as Modern Metal Pull - 8160 or Traditional Metal Knob - 5095. On the pages we checked, our headings repeat such names after the product number: Transitional Metal Pull 765, Traditional Metal Pull 740.

On our store you will also meet Contemporary and Classic. The page for BP8160160195 has contemporary in its address and on its Pulls and Knobs Style line, under the heading Modern Metal Pull 8160; the page for BP740128195 has classic in its address under the heading Traditional Metal Pull 740. The catalog heads the pages of these models Expression / Modern (page 83) and Expression / Traditional (page 116); on our pages one model can carry both words.

How Richelieu gives sizes: center to center, length, projection

The catalog tables have a Dimensions column (c.c. or diameter) and an Overall Dimensions column (L x P). Page 152 explains the letters: C.C. = Center-to-center, L = Length, P = Projection. For BP8160160, page 83 gives 160 mm c.c., 190 x 28 mm (7-1/2 x 1-1/8 in) and an 8/32 screw.

The pull pages we checked use separate lines: Center to Center, Length - Overall Dimensions and Projection - Overall Dimensions; the knob pages we checked have Diameter - Overall Dimensions.

Richelieu's website can show measures converted to inches, marked with an asterisk, and says of them: "These are not the official measures." An inch value marked with an asterisk on one of our pages is a converted value as well; for the 128 mm pull 9208128180 the catalog prints 128 mm - 5-1/16 in (page 7). When you match an existing pull, go by the measure the catalog prints. How to measure a pull is covered in our guide to cabinet pull sizes.
