Alarm Lock Trilogy Keypad Locks: T2 DL2700 vs T3 DL3200, IC and WP Versions, Exit Trim and Batteries

Some keypad locks on office and storeroom doors only let the right people in with a code; others also record who used the door and when. In Alarm Lock's Trilogy range that is the difference between the T2 DL2700 and the T3 DL3200. The letters after the model number, such as IC and WP, decide how the lock is keyed and which door it suits.

Trilogy T2 vs T3: DL2700 or DL3200

Both are cylindrical keypad locks with an all-metal 12-button keypad, five AA batteries and no handing to choose, and both take codes of 3 to 6 digits. The DL2700 holds up to 100 codes (10 manager and 90 basic user codes) plus a master code and 3 one-time service codes, all programmed at the keypad. The DL3200, which Alarm Lock's catalog presents as the replacement for the older DL2800, holds up to 2,000 codes on four levels: master, management, supervisor and basic user.

The rows are a selection from the comparison table in Alarm Lock's abbreviated catalog; not listed means an empty cell there. The catalog lists both as BHMA Grade 1 locksets.

Pick the DL3200 when the log matters. Its catalog feature list mentions PC programming and reports, but the catalog's comparison table and the price book describe keypad programming, so ask us how the log is read before you order. Both have a passage mode; the DL3200 adds a quick passage mode that, according to the catalog, works without entering program mode. The DL2700 spec sheet lists a 2-wire remote override; read each lock's instructions and our electrified door hardware guide before you wire a remote button.

The catalog also lists T2 mortise locks (DL2700CR classroom, DL2700DB deadbolt) and a T3 DL4100 privacy lock with an optional inside push button that temporarily locks out keypad codes. Our lock functions guide explains classroom and privacy functions.

IC or key override: how a Trilogy lock takes a key

Without IC in the number, a DL2700 or DL3200 has a key override cylinder, which Alarm Lock describes as solid brass, 6 pin, SC1 keyway. IC means the lock is prepared for an interchangeable core; the DL2700 spec sheet says the Alarm Lock tailpiece is supplied and the IC core is not. The standard IC prep is listed for Best, Falcon, Arrow and KSP cores. Special-order preps add a letter after the finish: -Y Yale, -M Medeco, -R Sargent, -C Corbin Russwin, -S Schlage. So the DL2700IC/26D-R is a T2 lock with a Sargent IC core prep in 26D.

Not sure which core format your building uses? Start with our SFIC vs LFIC guide. The two versions are easy to tell apart by part number: a DL2700 US26D has key override, while a DL2700IC US26D is supplied without a core.

WP: weatherproof Trilogy locks

WP stands for weatherproof. The DL2700 spec sheet describes WP models as water-sealed for use inside and out, operating from -31 to +151 F. Alarm Lock's newest abbreviated catalog says all Trilogy DL and PDL models are now weatherproof as standard, and the DL2700 part numbers in the current price book carry no WP suffix. A part number that still carries the suffix looks like DL2700WP US26D. The price book also lists a severe weather keypad guard, HW2037.

Trilogy exit trim: reading an ETDL27 part number

Trilogy exit trim is battery operated outside trim for panic devices, listed in the price book for series including Von Duprin 99, Marks M9900, Sargent 8800 and Yale 7100. The catalog names the ETDL27 as the T2 version. Here is ETDL27S1G/26DV99 read with the price book's exit trim pages:

  • ETDL27: T2 exit trim, keypad only
  • S: straight handle (R is Regal)
  • 1: door thickness option, printed as 1-3/4 + 1/8 inch; thicker door preps need an extended spindle and screw kit
  • G: generic rim cylinder and adapter kit included
  • 26D: satin chrome (Alarm Lock calls 10B duronodic)
  • V99: Von Duprin 99 (M99 is Marks M9900)

For other panic devices the device code at the end changes: ETDL27S1G/26DM99 is for Marks M9900 and ETDL27S1G/26DY71 for Yale 7100. For a specific brand of rim cylinder, the price book says to order a cylinder adapter kit, such as ET-S for a Schlage standard rim cylinder or ET-BIC for Best IC. The five AA batteries mount on the inside of the door.

One caution: the catalog's comparison table gives the ETDL27 100 user codes, but the ETDL27 rows in the price book print 2,000. If capacity matters, ask us about the exact model.

Trilogy batteries, battery packs and parts

The T2 programming instructions call for 1.5 volt Duracell alkaline AA batteries. When they get weak, the lock answers a key press with a high-low sounder and a flashing red LED. The instructions say to replace them as soon as possible and explain how to tell whether the programming was kept. For the ETDL27 exit trim, the catalog gives a typical battery life of 60,000 cycles.

If you need the pack itself, Alarm Lock's price book lists the S6061 as the complete battery pack for the DL2700WP, S6065 as the battery pack for mortise locks and S6174 as the exit trim battery case. Check the parts list for your model before you order.

Trilogy manuals and templates to read before installing

Alarm Lock lists its Trilogy documents on its instruction manuals page (some open only after you sign in to Napco's technical library). Read these before drilling or programming:

  • The DL2700 spec sheet: doors 1-5/8 to 1-7/8 inch thick, 2-3/4 inch backset (2-3/8 inch available) and a standard ANSI 161 prep modified with additional through-bolt holes.
  • The template for all Trilogy cylindrical locks, to be printed without size changes and measured after printing.
  • The T2 programming instructions for mortise, cylindrical and exit trim locks. They say every lock leaves the factory with the same master code, which must be changed.
  • The DL3200 programming instructions.
  • For exit trim, the installation instructions and template for your panic device model, such as Von Duprin 99.
