Automatic Door Operator Manuals: Norton 6000, LCN 4630/4640, Senior Swing and SDC Auto

Which manual fits an automatic door operator depends on its model number and sometimes on the mounting side and arm. This page lists manufacturer manuals for the low energy door operators we carry from Norton (6000 Series), LCN (4630/4640 Auto-Equalizer and Senior Swing) and SDC (Auto series), and outlines what the main ones cover.

What "low energy door operator" means

LCN's Automatic Operators catalog (009510, Rev. 08/26) gives this definition: "Low Energy, or LE, operators are a type of automatic operator. These are differentiated from full-energy, or high-energy, operators through a variety of code and safety implications. The primary differences are that LE operators require a knowing act for operation, but do not require safety sensors or guide rails." The same catalog states: "Low Energy Operators must adhere to the A156.19 standard set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Building Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA)."

Door closers have a separate guide: door closer types.

Norton 6000 Series operator manual: which booklet for which model

Norton Rixson's three-page 6000 Series Templates and Installation Instructions Guide (43602, 06/25) matches each model to its template and installation instructions. The installation instructions it lists:

ModelMountingManual
6011, 6051Pull side, single80-9360-1040-020
6021, 6031Push side, single80-9360-1041-020
6061, 6071Push side, single80-9360-1042-020
D6011, D6051Pull side, double80-9360-1044-020
D6021, D6031Push side, double80-9360-1045-020
D6061, D6071Push side, double80-9360-1046-020

The guide also lists the double egress units D6001DE-R (80-9360-1047-020) and D6001DE-L (80-9360-1048-020) and LAP replacement instructions (80-9360-1034-020). Documents not linked here are in the Documentation section of Norton Rixson's 6000 Series page.

The model chart in the Norton Rixson Operators Catalog (43492, 09/26, page 15) shows the arm for each model: the 6011 has the rigid arm and slide track and the 6051 the double egress and slide track arm; the 6021 and 6031 use the standard-duty double lever arm; the 6061 and 6071 use the heavy-duty Unitrol arm. Options there: RF (radio frequency controls), D, D1 and D2 (drop applications), DMY (dummy unit).

Example: a Norton 6021RF 689 is a push side operator with the standard-duty double lever arm and radio frequency controls, so its installation instructions are 80-9360-1041-020.

What the Norton 6000 manuals cover

The three single-door booklets (Rev 3 or Rev 4, 12/25, 14 pages each) follow the same page order. In the 6021/6031 booklet:

  • Pages 2-3: standards, safety warnings, general information
  • Page 4: frame reinforcing, fasteners and technical data
  • Pages 5-9: preparing the frame and door, installing the operator
  • Page 10: adjusting tube, shoe and main arm (track and arm in the pull side booklet)
  • Page 11: closer valve and spring force adjustments
  • Pages 12-13: cover, general electrical information, troubleshooting guide

Technical data on page 4 of that booklet: input power 120VAC, 60Hz; door width 36 to 48 inches; door weight 100-250 lb. The other booklets print their own figures, so read them in the one for your model.

Each single-door booklet points to a separate manual for operator setup and adjustments: the 6000 Series Programming and Wiring Instructions (80-9360-1043-020, Rev 6, 07/26, 36 pages; the double door version is 80-9360-1049-020). It covers initial wiring, setup through the LCD screen or WiFi, output and input connections, error codes and wiring diagrams (pages 17-33), among them fail secure and fail safe electric strikes. Our fail safe vs fail secure guide explains those terms.

These are the editions on Norton Rixson's 6000 Series page in October 2026. For an operator already on the door, use the instructions supplied with the unit or ask Norton Rixson Technical Product Support which edition applies.

LCN 4630 and 4640 Auto-Equalizer manual (4631, 4642)

LCN covers both models in one booklet, the 4630, 4640 Electric Auto Equalizer Series Installation Instructions (28101, Rev. 01/19, 20 pages): the 4630 is the pull side mount and the 4640 the push side mount. LCN's instruction index (Rev. 03/26) lists a separate booklet for the 4630CS and 4640CS (29268, Rev. 05/19); in the LCN catalog the CS option is a concealed on/off power switch. So an LCN 4642-REG 695 CS uses booklet 29268.

Booklet 28101 puts the 4630 and 4640 templates on pages 4-5, arm installation and closer regulation on pages 7-9, electrical connections and wiring on pages 11-14 and controller programming on pages 16-17.

Page 2 prints the limits. The 4631 is for pull side installation on the top jamb, with a maximum pull side reveal of 1/8 inch. The 4642 is for push side installation on the top jamb and accommodates reveals up to 4-1/2 inches; reveal depths of 4-1/2 to 8 inches require the 4642 L (long arm). For each, the minimum door width is 36 inches and the maximum door weight is 225 lbs.

LCN Senior Swing 9500IQ manuals

LCN's instruction index lists for the 9500IQ, among others: surface mount installation instructions (016504), control box installation instructions (016506) and separate documents for the push arm, pull arm and telescoping push arm. In the LCN catalog the 9530IQ series (ordered as 9531IQ) is the single door pull side surface mount and the 9540IQ series (9542IQ) the push side one. LCN's Senior Swing page also keeps the earlier 9500 Series installation instructions (740132), whose cover does not carry the IQ name, so check your model number first.

SDC Auto operator installation guide

SDC's AUTOS Series Installation Guide for surface mounted applications (REV A.1, 07-26, 29 pages) runs in steps from the housing baseplate (page 5) and arm assembly (10) to the 120 VAC connection (17) and power on and tune-in (18), then I/O board wiring connections (20), troubleshooting (23) and wiring diagrams (25). The SDC data sheet builds the model number in four steps: AUTOS for single door operation or AUTOP for double door operation, the function (1 is a push arm, 2 a pull arm), the door opening in inches and the finish (V is 628 dull aluminum, Y is 335 dull black). An SDC AUTOS236V is therefore a single door operator with a pull arm for a 36 inch door opening in 628 dull aluminum.
