Camden Door Controls numbers such as CM-45/A4, CM-331/42SW-SGLR or CX-ED1079DL pack the series and its options, such as a faceplate graphic or a finish, into one string. This guide reads them as Camden's current specification sheets print them, to help you match a number on a switch, lock or drawing to a product.
CM, CX and CV: what the prefix tells you
Camden's Specification (data) Sheets page sorts its series into four groups. We found no Camden key for the prefixes, but a pattern shows:
- Activation: CM series - push plates, push buttons, key switches, keypads, touchless and wireless switches, CM-PT cables.
- Control: CX relays, timers, door alarms, power supplies and restroom controls, plus CM-AF annunciators.
- Locking: CX electric strikes, magnetic locks and the CX-95S-DH door holder.
- Access: CV readers, keypads and the CV-603 controller, plus CI industrial switches.
The power transfer cable sheet prints one prefix rule: custom-length cables start with CC instead of CM (CC-PT250SS-XX).
After the prefix come the series number and the options. On push plate and touchless switches the faceplate graphic follows a slash: CM-45/4 is a CM-45 with graphic 4. Our product names keep the slash (CM-331/42), our web addresses drop it (camden-cm-33142), and our CM-336 switch names use a dash (CM-336-42WS) where the CM-336 sheet prints a slash.
CM-45 and CM-46 push plate switches: graphics and finishes
The CM-45/46 spec sheet (MKTG-LIT-SP-45&46_R7) covers 4-1/2 inch square push plate switches: CM-45 with concealed screws, CM-46 with exposed screws, and the blue CM-46CB, which this sheet offers only with graphics /1, /2 and /4. Selected graphics:
| Suffix | Faceplate |
|---|---|
| /1 | Blank |
| /2, /A2 | Wheelchair symbol |
| /3 | PUSH TO OPEN |
| /4, /A4 | Wheelchair and PUSH TO OPEN |
| /8, /8D | PUSH TO LOCK, PUSH TO LOCK DOOR |
| /8B | PUSH TO LOCK in red, lock symbol |
The A versions use the active wheelchair symbol, AL and AR add a left or right arrow (/2AL, /4AR), and /3F, /4F and /8F carry French wording.
Finishes and the weatherproof option follow a dash (CM-XXX-AB, CM-XXX-WT): AB antique brass (BHMA 609, US5), SB satin brass (BHMA 606, US4), OB oil rub bronze (BHMA 640, US10B, marked not color matched) and PB polished brass (BHMA 605, US3), none for the CM-46CB, and WT for a boot and water tight coating. DP orders a DPDT instead of the SPDT switch, with a special mounting plate or template.
Camden finish codes vs our chart
SB, PB and AB match the pairs in our door hardware finish codes chart, which calls 609 satin brass, blackened, satin relieved. OB does not: the CM-45/46 sheet pairs US10B with BHMA 640; our chart and Camden's Kinetic and Lazerpoint kit sheets pair it with 613. The CM-4000/4100 push button sheet (MKTG-LIT-SP-4000/4100-R3) lists BZ dark bronze as BHMA 710, 313AN, like our chart, and adds "Optional duranodic finish (US 40) is also available." Our chart has no US 40. To match existing hardware, confirm the code with Camden.
Touchless switches: ValueWave and SureWave numbers
The CM-221/222 ValueWave sheet (MKTG-LIT-SP-CM-221-222-R6) lists CM-221 with red/green and CM-222 with blue/green illumination. After the graphic, no letter means single gang, W double gang, N narrow (jamb); M after the series adds a manual override (CM-221M/46). Graphics are /40 to /44, /46 (WAVE TO EXIT), /A42 and /A44; -P3 adds a CX-PS13v3 linear power supply (CM-221/42-P3).
The SureWave Model Selection Guide (MKG-LIT-SP-SW-GUIDE-R2) describes each series:
| Series | Guide description |
|---|---|
| CM-331 | 1 relay |
| CM-332 | 2 relays, line powered |
| CM-333 | 1 relay, hybrid battery powered |
| CM-336 | Battery powered, receiver required |
| CM-324 | 1 relay, line powered |
| CM-325 | 1 relay, short range |
The CM-331, CM-332, CM-333, CM-324/325 and CM-336 sheets share these options: S, stainless steel instead of black polycarbonate; /N narrow, /W double gang or /R 6 inch round (stainless steel only) instead of single gang; graphics /40 to /44 instead of blank, plus F for French. -SGLR adds a plug-in light ring (CM-331, CM-332), -L1 lithium batteries instead of alkaline (CM-333, CM-336; CM-LP1 is a lithium battery pack). So our CM-331/42SW-SGLR is graphic 42, stainless steel, double gang, with light ring.
Camden wireless push buttons: Lazerpoint and Kinetic
The Lazerpoint sheet (MKTG-LIT-SP-RFLAZER_R10) lists kit CM-RFL464-SA as two CM-46/4 switches, two CM-43CBL surface boxes, two CM-TX-9 transmitters and a CM-RX-90 receiver; B instead of the final A gives an RX-91 receiver, D an RX-92. The Kinetic sheet (MKTG-LIT-SP-KINETIC_R3) lists its no-battery push plates under K numbers such as CM-45K.
CX and CM-PT numbers
- CX-91 magnetic locks (MKTG-LIT-SP-CX-91Series_R3): S is surface and M mortise mount; 06 models are listed as 600 lbs. and 12 models as 1200 lbs.; TDS adds an adjustable timer, door status switch, lock sensor, relay and LED; -BK is all-black.
- CX-ED1079 electric strikes (MKTG-LIT-SP-CX-ED1079_R5): no letter is low profile, D standard depth, L latch monitoring, -BK black faceplates (BHMA 622, US19) instead of stainless steel CX-ESP1B, CX-ESP3B and CX-ESP4B. The sheet lists "Selectable fail safe / fail secure operation" - see fail safe vs fail secure.
- CX-95S-DH door holders: -FL floor mount, CX-95S-3E and -7E extension bars of 3 and 7 inches, -BK black. See door stops and holders.
- CM-PT power transfer cables (MKTG-LIT-SP-PWRCABLES_R1): CM-PT250 is listed at 1/4 inch and CM-PT375 at 3/8 inch inside diameter; AL is aluminum cable and endcaps, SS stainless steel endcaps, -DUR duranodic (dark bronze), and a closing number the length in inches. CM-PT250AL-18 was formerly CM-PT14. See electric power transfers.
The same letter can mean different things
- S: stainless steel faceplate on SureWave switches, surface mount on CX-91 locks, SORTIE engraving on CM-4000 buttons.
- W: double gang on ValueWave and SureWave touchless switches, weatherized on CX-DA800 and CX-DA810 door alarms.
- D: standard depth on the CX-ED1079, double door version of some CX-MA lock brackets and plates.
