Ordering an LCN Senior Swing 9500IQ comes down to a short list of choices: one door or a pair (opening together or independently), push side or pull side, the arm, the opening width and the finish. Product names on our pages, such as 9553IQ-REGARM2-COV2-72-ANBLK, pack most of them into one line. LCN's Automatic Operators Catalog sets them out in twelve numbered steps for each model.
9531IQ, 9542IQ, 9553IQ or 9563IQ: which one fits the opening
In the catalog the 9530IQ series is ordered as the 9531IQ, the 9540IQ as the 9542IQ, and so on; all four are surface mounted. According to LCN's Senior Swing FAQ, the IQ suffix marks the current models.
| Operator | Doors; mounting |
|---|---|
| 9531IQ | Single door; Pull side, standard arm and track |
| 9542IQ | Single door; Push side, four arm choices |
| 9553IQ | Pair, simultaneous, one controller; Push, pull or double egress |
| 9563IQ | Pair, independent, two controllers; Push, pull or double egress |
If a double egress pair will have safety sensors, one line on the 9550IQ double egress mounting page decides the model: "Double egress applications with safety sensors require LCN 9560IQ Series." That means the 9563IQ.
The catalog lists doors up to 600 lbs for all four, and the same mounting minimums: a 2-3/4 inch door top rail, a 1-3/4 inch head frame and a 6-1/2 inch face frame. For pull side and double egress mounting, its notes say the operator cannot be used with swing clear hinges, pocket pivots or balanced doors. For balanced doors on the push side, they say to consult the factory.
Push side or pull side: arm and reveal
The arm follows the mounting side, and each arm covers a range of reveal. Single door ranges, per the catalog:
| Arm code | Side | Reveal, in |
|---|---|---|
| STD | Pull, with STD track | 0 to 4 |
| REG | Push | 0 to 10 |
| TLS | Push, telescoping | up to 5 |
| LNGTLS | Push, telescoping long | 5 to 13 |
| LONG | Push | 10 to 20 |
For reveals from 13 up to 18 inches, the catalog and the FAQ list a telescoping extension. On a pair the codes double: STDTRACKARM2 for a double pull, LONG2, TLS2 or LNGTLS2 for a double push, and REG/STD or TLS/STD for double egress, where the reveal stays within 4 inches. Two regular arms are REGARM2 on the 9553IQ order page and REG2 on the 9563IQ page.
Cover, opening width and the rest of the order
The FAQ says the IQ series is ordered by door opening width, measured between the inside jambs, not by header length, and that surface mounted IQ operators have covers rather than headers. With a sidelight under the same cover, it says to order the full width from the inside door jamb to the sidelight jamb, and an adjusted spindle center if needed. The other fields:
- Cover: COV for a single door, 33 to 48 inches, or COV2 for a double door, 48.125 to 98 inches. The 9553IQ and 9563IQ list COV2 only.
- Opening width: 33 to 98 inches for the 9531IQ and 9542IQ (the door itself 33 to 48 inches, per the catalog and the FAQ); 52 to 98 (push) or 60 to 98 (pull, double egress) for the 9553IQ; 65 to 98 for the 9563IQ.
- Track: STD on the 9531IQ, LESS (no track) on the 9542IQ, LESS, STD or STD2 on the pairs.
- Handing: RH or LH; the pairs also come non-handed for double push or double pull.
- Voltage: 115V standard, or 230V.
- Spindle center: 2.75 standard, or SPEC; the 9542IQ also lists 12.25.
- Finish: 628 aluminum, 710 dark bronze or 711 matte black, all anodized. The FAQ pairs them with the letters ANCLR, ANDKB and ANBLK seen in our product names.
- Rocker switch: SW (yes) or NS (no).
A mounting plate is optional, but the FAQ recommends one on hollow metal frames, metal storefronts included. Per the catalog, the -18 plate is 1/4 inch thick and is ordered 3-3/4 inches longer than the door opening width, so a 72 inch opening takes a 75-3/4 inch plate.
Worked example: one 36 inch door, push side
Take one door with the operator on the push side, a 36 inch opening (the standard width on the 9540IQ page), a reveal of 10 inches or less and a matte black finish.
- Operator: 9542IQ
- Motor gearbox: standard
- Controller: standard
- Cover: COV
- Opening width: 36
- Arm: REG
- Track: LESS
- Handing: RH or LH, to suit the door
- Voltage: 115V
- Spindle center: 2.75
- Finish: 711 (ANBLK)
- Rocker switch: SW or NS
The 9542IQ-REGARM-COV-36-RH-ANBLK under this post names the same arm, cover, width and finish for a right hand door. REGARM is the catalog's accessory name for the regular arm.
What the IQ controller sets at installation
Speeds and forces belong to the control box, not the order. LCN's Senior Swing IQ Controller Guidebook makes calibration the start-up step, run from the Device Setup menu once the arm is installed and the door is clear; it does not start automatically, the FAQ adds. During calibration the controller estimates the weight and size of the door and adjusts its defaults.
After that, the 23 settings can be changed on the LCD screen or, as the catalog notes, in the Allegion Optimize app. They include opening speed and force, hold open delay (1 to 60 seconds, default 5), closing speed, latch angle, Power Boost, Power Assist and Push and Go; where the chart shows no default, calibration sets the value. The guidebook says to recalibrate whenever the maximum door position changes, after an arm adjustment for example.
The guidebook states: "The Senior Swing IQ Power Operator System is a low energy product and must conform to the latest version of ANSI/BHMA A156.19". Its caution says to "Adjust the operator for the slowest operation practical" in line with the ADA, A156.19 and local codes. The guidebook also has sample wiring for fail safe and fail secure locking devices; our fail safe vs fail secure guide explains the terms.
An older Senior Swing without IQ
LCN's Senior Swing page keeps separate templates and instructions for Senior Swing products from before November 17, 2025. The FAQ says a new IQ controller and motor gearbox can go into an old header, but only together, since neither works with the old version of the other. The upgrade kit is SSIQUPGRADE, -SD for a single door, -DD for a simultaneous pair. Our automatic door operator manuals guide lists the IQ installation documents; for closers, see the door closer types guide. Browse our LCN Closers page or the automatic door operators and actuators category.
