Don-Jo ADR Aluminum Door Reinforcers: ADR-1, ADR-2 or ADR-3 for Adams-Rite Compatible Deadbolts

On a parts list the Don-Jo ADR-1, ADR-2 and ADR-3 look almost the same: one length, one gauge, one door thickness. Choosing between them comes down to the cutouts drawn on Don-Jo's templates and, for the ADR-3, the hand.

What Don-Jo says the ADR is for

Don-Jo lists the ADR parts as their own Aluminum Door Reinforcer product line, and the banner on its home page currently reads "NEW! Aluminum Door Reinforcers". Each ADR product page calls the part an aluminum door reinforcer. The only feature line on those pages reads "Works with Adams-Rite Compatible Deadbolt and Swing-Bolt Models". Don-Jo does not list individual Adams Rite numbers there, so identify the lock on your door first. Our Adams Rite numbers guide shows how to read an MS1850S deadlock number.

Don-Jo ADR-1, ADR-2 or ADR-3: the cutouts

Each template draws the part as one outline, 10-1/2 by 5-7/8 inches overall, split by two dash-dot lines into sections of 2.055, 1.765 and 2.055 inches. Don-Jo does not label those lines, and the product pages list the width as 2 inches. The outlines differ like this:

NumberTemplate cutoutsHand
ADR-1Slot onlyNone listed
ADR-2Slot, rounded cutout on both sidesNone listed
ADR-3Slot, rounded cutout one side, notch on the otherRH or LH

The slot sits in the middle section on all three drawings, and the ADR-1 and ADR-2 drawings give it as 3 inches long. The drawings give the rounded cutout a 1 inch radius, with its center 3-1/2 inches below the top end of the outline. On the ADR-3 the notch is 1.688 inches deep and 7-3/4 inches long. It starts 1 inch below the top. Don-Jo does not say which lock or trim each cutout is meant for, so have your lock model ready when you choose.

Specifications shared by all ADR parts

The product pages give the same figures for every ADR:

  • Gauge: 16 ga. (.062 inch)
  • Length: 10-1/2 inches
  • Width: 2 inches
  • Door: 1-3/4 inches

RH or LH: ordering the ADR-3

Only the ADR-3 comes in two hands, sold as ADR-3 RH and ADR-3 LH. Its template carries the number ADR-3 with no hand, and neither the template nor the product pages explain how the hand is read. If you are not sure which one your door needs, call us before you order.

Finish codes: 622, 630 and DU

On our product pages the finish is the last part of the number, as in ADR-1-630, ADR-2-622 or ADR-3-LH-DU. Don-Jo's finish chart pairs BHMA 630 with US-32D and lists DU as "Duronodic Brown Coated". Don-Jo's own sources name the finishes in two ways: the templates say black coat, duro coat, silver coat and 630, while the product pages list 10B, 622 and 630. If the reinforcer has to match a finish already on the door, ask us to confirm the code. Our door hardware finish codes chart explains 622 and 630.

Mounting holes and templates

Each template shows eight holes, four near each end, and the ADR-1 and ADR-2 drawings give a hole diameter of .200 inch. Neither the templates nor the product pages list screws or other fasteners. Don-Jo offers the templates as downloads: ADR-1 template (PDF), ADR-2 template (PDF) and ADR-3 template (PDF).
