Rockwood Item Numbers: Offset Pulls, Push Plates, 890 and 891

The pull on your door is a Rockwood, or the hardware schedule calls for a BF157, a 70C or an 891, and you want to know what it stands for. Start with the Numeric Index on pages 3 to 6 of Rockwood's Full Line Catalog, which opens from Rockwood's catalog page. Each entry gives a description and a page.

Rockwood 890 and 891: pocket door pull and privacy latch

On page F11 of the current catalog the 890 is a Pocket Door Pull and the 891 a Pocket Door Privacy Latch. Both are brass, 2-1/2 inches wide and 2-3/4 inches high, for 1-3/8 and 1-3/4 inch doors, in US3, US10B, US26 or US26D. The 891 adds a turn piece that locks to a strike in the jamb, with an emergency release on the opposite side. Rockwood rules both out for caustic environments.

One installation sheet covers both. It sits next to the cut sheet on the 890 page, linked from Rockwood's Pocket Door Pulls and Latches page.

Rockwood offset door pulls: BF150 to BF169

Pages B28 and B31 list the solid BF offset pulls:

NumbersBar, angleCenters (in)
BF150, BF151, BF1523/4 in, 90 deg8, 10, 12
BF156, BF157A, BF157, BF158, BF1591 in, 90 deg8, 9, 10, 12, 18
BF160, BF161, BF1623/4 in, 45 deg8, 10, 12
BF166, BF167A, BF167, BF168, BF1691 in, 45 deg8, 9, 10, 12, 18

A BF157 is the 1 inch, 90 degree pull on 10 inch centers; a BF157A has 9 inch centers. In all four tables the overall length is the centers plus one bar diameter (a BF156 is 9 inches overall on 8 inch centers), so match the hole spacing, not the overall length. Our Burns offset pull guide compares the angles.

Straight pulls and pull plates

On page B14 the straight pulls 102-RKW to 109 have a 5/8 or 3/4 inch bar on 5-1/2 to 12 inch centers, and 110-RKW to 118 a 1 inch bar on 8 to 18 inch centers. On these pulls and on the pull plates of page B23, a BF prefix orders a 2-1/2 inch barrier free clearance, as in BF107 or BF102 x 70C.

In a pull plate number such as 107 x 70C the pull comes first; our push, pull and kick plate guide explains the plate letters. On page B1, a pull on a plate 4 inches wide or less sits on the center line; on wider plates the pull's center line is 2 inches from one edge, and Rockwood needs the hand of the door.

Push plates: 70C and its variants

For its 70, 71 and 73 push plates Rockwood asks for plate number, size letter and finish, as in its own example, 70B US32D. The current catalog prints the 4 x 16 inch plate of the .050 inch 70 series as 70C-RKW, and the 70RC and 70RE plates use the same size letters.

Push and pull bar sets: BF15747 and the T codes

In the Series 47 set tables on pages A14 to A19, each set number starts with the number of its pull. BF15747 is the BF157 offset pull with a Series 47 push bar, 11047 the 110 straight pull with the same bar; -2 and -3 mark double and triple sets. Each set takes a mounting spec:

SpecDoorMounting
T1metal, woodback to back, decorative bolt
T2glassback to back, thru bolt
T3metal, woodback to back, thru bolt (standard)
T4metalback to back, concealed
T5woodback to back, concealed

Rockwood's ordering example, BF15747 T3, wood door, 33" CTC, US32D316, gives number, spec, door, push bar centers and finish.

Mounting suffixes: BTB, C, HD and the type numbers

The pulls on pages B14, B28 and B31 are listed with a 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolt and finish washer for a standard 1-3/4 inch door, and Rockwood wants any other door thickness stated. Other mountings go into the number:

  • BTB plus a type number: a back to back pair (107BTB5, BF156BTB16)
  • C plus a type number: a concealed single pull (107C6, BF156C17)
  • HD after the type number: heavy duty on 1 inch pulls (112BTB5HD, BF156BTB16HD)
  • Y prefix: base plates (YBF160), recommended by Rockwood on wood and glass doors

A selection of type numbers from pages B13 and B27:

TypeDoorMounting
1wood, metalthru bolt, finish washer
12wood, metaldecorative thru bolt
15glassdecorative thru bolt
5 straight, 16 offsetwood, metalback to back
13 straight, 18 offsetglassback to back
6 straight, 17 offsetmetalconcealed, door tapped
6R, 17Rmetalconcealed, rivnut
8 straightwoodconcealed, thread insert

HD and XHD use 5/16-18 and 3/8-16 bolts instead of 1/4-20, with a hex drive; Rockwood recommends them for high frequency and rough service openings. Page B27 marks types 16 and 17R for 1 inch offset pulls only and type 17 for pulls of at least 1 inch, and page B13 sets the same 1 inch minimum for type 6R, so ask us before ordering a 3/4 inch pull with one of these types. Our Burns mounting guide shows how thru bolt, back to back and concealed mountings differ.

RM numbers: pulls, coat hooks and door stops

Rockwood's Architectural Door Pull Catalog uses RM numbers, and not all of them are pulls. RM201 to RM204 are 1-1/4 inch tubular 90 degree offset pulls with bent ends on 12, 18, 24 and 36 inch centers, while RM301 to RM304 are straight pulls in the same sizes. The RM801 is a coat hook, 1-1/4 x 1-3/4 inches, and RM850 to RM877 are door stops.

Rockwood finish codes

Most codes in Rockwood's finish table on page 9 are US codes such as US32D; others include 313, 315, 10BE, BSP and WPC. Next to each code the table prints a BHMA number or a dash: US32D 630, US26D 626, US10B 613, 313 is 710, 315 is 711 and 10BE 613E; BSP and WPC have a dash. Other codes are in our finish codes chart.

What to have ready when you order

  • The full number with its prefixes and suffixes, plus the T code for a bar set
  • The finish code
  • Door material and thickness
  • Center to center spacing of the existing holes
  • The hand of the door, for a pull plate wider than 4 inches

Rockwood products in our catalog are on the Rockwood Manufacturing page.
