Corbin Russwin ED5200 and ED7200 Exit Devices: Model Numbers, Trim and Functions

A hardware schedule lists ED5470 C955ET 626 LHR, or a replacement has to match an ED5200A already on the door. A Corbin Russwin order line puts the device number first, then the outside trim, the finish and the hand. Split the line into its parts and you know what to replace and what to ask for.

Corbin Russwin exit device series

The two series read below are the ED5000, a pushpad device for wide stile doors, and the ED7000, a crossbar device for narrow stile doors.

Our exit device types guide compares rim, surface vertical rod, concealed vertical rod and mortise devices.

How to read ED5200, ED5400, ED5600 and ED5800

In every device number quoted here from the ED5000 Series catalog (PDF) and the ED7000 Series catalog (PDF), the digit after ED5 or ED7 gives the device type: 2 for rim, 4 for surface vertical rod, 6 for mortise and 8 for concealed vertical rod. What follows changes the version:

  • A: 3-hour fire listed, as in ED5200A or ED5800A. Without A or B the device is panic listed only.
  • B: 1-1/2 hour fire listed (ED5470B, ED5860B).
  • S: SecureBolt, with a deadbolt-style latch (ED5200S, ED5200SA).
  • 02 in place of 00: double cylinder, as in ED5202 and ED5602L.
  • D: delayed egress, added as a suffix, for example ED5200D.
  • L and T on mortise devices: ED5600L for lever or flat plate trim, ED5600T for thumbpiece trim; nightlatch and dummy functions use ED5657L or ED5657T.

The ED5470 and ED5860 are separate vertical rod models, listed for single openings up to 4 by 10 feet against 4 by 8 feet for the ED5400 and ED5800. Only these two take M55, less bottom rod. The ED5800 is for metal doors only, the ED5860 for metal or wood doors.

Corbin Russwin ED7200 and the ED7000 crossbar devices

The ED7000 catalog covers the ED7200 rim, ED7400 surface vertical rod and ED7800 concealed vertical rod; the series page also names a mortise version. In the catalog's listing table only the ED7800A is fire rated (3 hours). The ED7200 and ED7400 are panic listed only.

For the ED7200 the catalog gives:

  • Field reversible: the hand goes on the order as RHR or LHR (see our door handing chart).
  • A 36 inch bar for doors up to 36 inches as standard, or W048, a 48 inch bar for doors up to 48 inches. Both cut to size in the field.
  • Minimum stile 2-1/2 inches with the standard strike and a 1/2 inch stop.

For the ED7200 the catalog shows pull and plate trims: P450ET and P650ET dummy, P457ET, P657ET and P757ET nightlatch. Lever trim such as C455ET goes on the ED7401 vertical rod device, 1-3/4 inch doors only.

Outside trim numbers: N955ET, A959ET, N9M57ET

A device without outside trim is exit only. ED5000 heavy-duty trim has its own number in two parts. On the standard lever designs the letters name the lever, such as A Armstrong, C Citation, D Dirke, E Essex, L Lustra, N Newport, R Regis or PR Princeton. The digits name the function (x stands for the lever letters):

TrimFunctionANSI No.
x910ETPassage14
x950ETDummy02
x955ETClassroom08
x957ETNightlatch03
x959ETStoreroom09

So N955ET is a Newport classroom trim and A959ET an Armstrong storeroom trim. The catalog notes that classroom trims convert to storeroom in the field and that 957 nightlatch trims are not recommended on ED5400 or ED5800 devices. Lever trim is handed, so trim orders carry RHR or LHR.

Mortise trims for the ED5600 add an M, as in N9M55 classroom or N9M57 nightlatch. Put the trim function on the device order: the catalog says it decides which lock body is supplied.

Electrified trims put 9903 (fail safe) or 9905 (fail secure) after the lever letter, as in N9903. A 9903 lever is locked while power is on, a 9905 while power is off, and the inside device stays active for egress. Our fail safe vs fail secure guide explains the terms.

Door size, options and finish in the order line

The catalog's detailed order example, ED5470 C955ET 626 LHR H1000 W048 M52-M54 7P AA1, breaks down like this:

  • ED5470: surface vertical rod device
  • C955ET: Citation lever trim, classroom function
  • 626: finish; LHR: hand
  • H1000: 10 foot door, offered on the ED5470(B), ED5860(B) and ED7400 only; 7 feet is standard on the ED5400 and ED5470.
  • W048: 48 inch bar for 36 to 48 inch doors. The standard 36 inch bar fits 30 to 36 inch doors, W024 a 24 inch door.
  • M52: cylinder dogging; M54: sex nuts and bolts
  • 7P: conventional 7-pin cylinder; AA1: key symbol

Door thickness is 1-3/4 inches unless D200 (2 inches) or D214 (2-1/4 inches) is added. ED5000 devices come without a cylinder unless one is specified; the ED7200 includes a 6-pin cylinder as standard. The ED5000 quick codes also cover LFIC and SFIC cores, compared in our SFIC vs LFIC guide.

ED5000 finish codes include 605, 606, 612, 613, 626, 630 and 722, plus the BSP and WSP powder coats. The quick code table pairs most of them with US codes, for example US26D with 626 and US32D with 630. In the ED5000 list 626 is marked trim only, with a note to contact the factory for devices in 626. Our finish codes chart covers the codes across brands.

Fire-rated ED5000 devices

Fire-rated ED5000 devices come with sex nuts and bolts and without mechanical dogging. The catalog warns that a retrofit or field change can affect the rating of a fire-rated opening and refers you to a code specialist or the authority having jurisdiction.

Installation instructions, templates and parts manuals
