Schlage Lock Model Numbers Explained: Residential F and B Series vs Commercial ND, ALX and L Series

A Schlage model number is a short code for the lock: it starts with the series and function and adds the lever or knob design, the finish and, when needed, the trim or the hand. This page shows how to read residential F Series and deadbolt numbers and commercial ND, ALX, L and B Series numbers, and how they appear in our product names.

How to read a Schlage residential lock model number (F Series)

On the schlage.com product pages we checked, the number is printed next to the trim name. The Plymouth Knob Keyed Entry Lock in satin nickel is "STANDARD TRIM | F51 PLY 619", and the same knob with Greenwich trim is "GREENWICH TRIM | F51 PLY 619 GRW". Read from left to right:

  • Function. Schlage's F Series spec sheets list F10 Hall & Closet (passage), F40 Bed & Bath (privacy), F51A Keyed Entry, F80 Storeroom and F170 Non-turning (inactive). On those schlage.com pages, keyed entry is written F51.
  • Design, three letters for the knob or lever, such as PLY Plymouth, LAT Latitude, ACC Accent and BWE Bowery.
  • Finish, three digits, such as 619 Satin Nickel, 622 Matte Black, 626 Satin Chrome and 716 Aged Bronze. The spec sheets say to check the latest price book for the trim and finish options available.
  • Trim, three letters at the end when the lock has a decorative trim instead of the standard one, such as ADD Addison, CAM Camelot or GRW Greenwich.

So F51 LAT 619 ADD is Schlage's "Latitude Lever Keyed Entry Lock with Addison Trim" in satin nickel.

Schlage handlesets and deadbolts: F60, F62, B60, B62

Schlage's handleset instructions cover the F60, F60F, F62 and F93: the F60 has a thumbturn inside, the F62 an inside cylinder and the F93 a blank plate. On a handleset the trim code follows the function, and the interior lever and, for a handed design, the hand follow the finish: the Camelot handleset with Accent lever is "CAMELOT TRIM | F60 CAM 619 ACC RH". Hand codes are explained in our door handing chart.

On the deadbolt pages we checked, the trim code comes before the finish: in satin nickel, Schlage lists the Single Cylinder Deadbolt as B60 619, the Double Cylinder Deadbolt as B62 619 and the Single Cylinder Deadbolt with Addison Trim as B60 ADD 619. In our catalog you will also see the form B60N, as in B60N-619.

How to read a Schlage commercial lock model number (ND, ALX, L)

The ordering procedures in Schlage's ALX Series service manual put the data in a fixed sequence: brand (SCH), series, function, cylinder suffix, outside lever design and finish, inside lever design and finish, then latch, strike, keyway and other details. The manual's example, ALX53 locks with a conventional 6-pin cylinder, Saturn lever and satin bronze (612) finish, is written SCH ALX 53 P SAT 612. The ND and L Series manuals start with the complete product number, followed by design, finish, hand, latch and strike.

  • Function: the number after the series letters, such as ND53 (entrance lock) or ALX50 (entrance/office). L9000 Series mortise locks have four digits, such as L9050 (entrance/office) or L9056 (entrance/office with automatic unlocking). Our lock functions guide explains the common codes.
  • Cylinder: the letters after the function. In the ALX example P is the conventional cylinder. The ND manual lists ND50PD, ND50RD (full size interchangeable core) and ND50GD (SFIC). In the L Series manual's example L9090PEL, P is the code for classic and full size Everest cylinders; its notes name L as the lock less cylinder option.
  • Lever design: three letters on ND and ALX locks, such as ATH Athens, LAT Latitude, RHO Rhodes, SPA Sparta and TLR Tubular. On ALX, SAT is the Saturn lever, not a finish. With a numbered lever, L Series trim is the lever number plus a rose letter (A, B or C) or escutcheon letter (L or N): 06A is the 06 (Rhodes) lever on rose A. Some L Series levers have letter codes instead, such as LAT and OME.
  • Finish: codes that the ALX and ND manuals say follow BHMA, explained in our door hardware finish codes chart. The same name can carry a different number: the ALX and ND manuals list aged bronze as 643e, while the F Series spec sheets list Aged Bronze as 716.

Schlage's Replacement Parts page lists service manuals for the A, ALX, B, L and ND Series but none for AL, so ask us before you order AL Series parts.

Hand, latch, strike and door thickness codes are covered in our Schlage lock parts guide.

Schlage B Series deadbolts: B560, B660, B760, B860

Schlage calls both groups B-Series: the B60/B62 instructions are headed "B-Series Deadbolts", while the B-Series service manual covers the B250, B500 and B600/700/800 Series. In that manual, B560, B660, B760 and B860 are all single cylinder deadbolts and B562, B662, B762 and B862 are double cylinder deadbolts. Its parts lists give the B660P a 6-pin conventional cylinder, the B760P a 6-pin Primus cylinder and the B860P a 6-pin Primus High Security cylinder.

Dummy trim: 170 and 172

170 is fixed trim on one side in several series: F170 Non-turning (inactive), ND170 and ALX170 single dummy trim, and L0170 half dummy trim. 172 is the version for both sides: ND172 and ALX172 double dummy, L0172 full dummy trim.
