Hager Companies (Hager) publishes instruction sheets for groups of Roton continuous hinge models, for its 5100 to 5400 door closer series and for its 3400 and 3500 locks. This page matches the number in our product title to its Hager document, says what each document contains and how Hager handles Roton templates.
Roton hinges: Hager furnishes instructions with each hinge
Hager's current Roton price book (v18.15) states: "Appropriate fasteners are furnished with each hinge, together with installation instructions for typical metal or wood doors and frames."
Which Roton instruction sheet covers your model
In our title Hager 780-112 83 DBA Continuous Hinge, the Roton model is 780-112. Sheets we opened for models on our Roton pages:
| Roton model | Hager sheet, part no. |
|---|---|
| 780-111, 780-112, 780-226, 780-235 | 75007112 |
| 780-041 | 75007041 |
| 780-053, 780-054 | 75007053 |
| 780-110 | 75007110 |
| 780-155 | 75007155 |
| 1200-600XHD, 1200-650XHD | 75009480 |
This is a selection; Hager has sheets for other models, such as the 780-211. Sheets 75007112 and 75007053 note that "HD" models have additional bearings for heavy-duty application. None of the 16 Roton instruction sheets we checked is headed for the 780-224, 780-157, 780-210, 780-057, 780-113, 780-124, 780-045 or 780-046. For those models, use the sheet packed with the hinge, or ask Hager or us.
What a Roton instruction sheet contains
- Page 1 of sheet 75007112 (drawing revision 3): model drawings, the Hinge Length table (door height, hinge length, number of fasteners), clearance for single doors and pairs, and the General Fitting Procedure for new metal doors and frames, site-hung wood doors and remodeling.
- Page 2: the Installation Procedure (Frame Preparation, Door Preparation, Hanging the Door, Adjusting the Door).
The 780-041, 780-110 and 1200-600XHD/1200-650XHD sheets have the same main sections; the 780-053/780-054 and 780-155 sheets end with Install the Snap-On Molding instead of Adjusting the Door. The two-page 1200-600XHD and 1200-650XHD sheet lists 83, 95 and 119 inch hinges. These notes follow the revisions we opened; the sheet that comes with your product is the one to follow.
Roton templates: standard lengths only
The price book says Hager "has developed templated hole patterns for Roton hinge models in standard lengths", with drawings available from Hager Customer Service or the Hager website, and that custom length hinges "are deemed by Hager to be non-templated". It lists the standard lengths as 79, 83, 85, 95 and 119 inches. Its page 3 covers non-standard lengths and field trimming and says any field modification may void the warranty.
Example: template 780-157-HD-119, a template for a full surface continuous geared aluminum hinge, is one sheet for the 119 inch 780-157HD, such as our 780-157HD 119 BLK. It gives the hole positions along the hinge on a scale from 0 to 119.000, a section view of the frame and door leaves (scale 1:1) and an end detail (scale 1:2). See also our Pemko continuous hinge template guide.
Fire-rated studs and electric modifications
- The Roton UL Fire-Rated Studs sheet, part no. 75006111, is headed for models 780-111, -112, -124, -224, -226 and -235. Its text says it covers the four optional stainless steel studs for models 780-112, 780-124 and 780-224, and states: "All four studs must be used in order to comply with U.L. requirements for composite wood fire doors rated up to 90 minutes and metal fire doors rated up to 3 hours." Part no. 75006041 prints the same sentence for the 780-041.
- The Roton Hinge with Electric Modifications - ETW and EMN instructions, part no. 75009017, covers the access holes in door and frame, connecting the wires, the wire colors and the maximum electrical rating of the contacts.
- The price book lists electric options such as ETW, RETW, EMN, ETM, E1S and E, with location templates available upon request, and says: "Contact Hager Technical Service before cutting electric hinges."
Hager 5100, 5200, 5300 and 5400 door closer installation
The Hager closer sheets we opened are six pages each: 5100, 5100 Delayed Action, 5200 (I-CL00187 R2), 5300 and 5400 Non-Hold Open. In Hager 5100-PAR HDS ALM the series is 5100; in Hager 5300 MLT 16 ALM it is 5300.
- Page 1: which page covers each mounting and door hand, notes, tools and component parts.
- Page 2: regular arm. Pages 3-4: parallel arm. Page 5: top jamb.
- Page 6: adjustments (sweep speed, latch speed, backcheck or delay action) and the spring power table of sizes.
Page 1 reads: "For special applications, a separate door and frame preparation template is packed with these instructions. Use this instruction sheet for installation sequence and closer adjustments only." It also warns: "These door closers should NOT be installed on the exposed side (weather side) of exterior doors."
Hager also publishes the 5125, 5106, 5108, 5961 Heavy Duty Parallel Arm installation instructions (I-CL00238), for the extra heavy duty arm, stop arm, hold open arm and hold open stop arm. These sheets do not explain the other codes in our titles, such as the 16 in 5300 MLT 16; ask us if a code in a title is unclear. See also our door closer types guide.
Hager 3400 and 3500 lock installation instructions
- 3400 Series ANSI Grade 1 Lever Set Installation Instructions, I-LS00766, for locks such as the 3450 26D AUG.
- 3500 Series ANSI Grade 2 Lever Set Installation Instructions, I-LS00768, for locks such as the 3553WTN26D.
- 3500 Series ANSI Grade 2 Knob Set Installation Instructions, I-LS00767.
Each is two pages (REV 2). On the lever set sheets, page 1 lists the tools, says which steps apply to a new installation, to replacing an existing lock (steps 3C, 4C and 5 through 9) and to replacing a cylinder (step 10), and covers marking and drilling the door and installing the latch and strike. Page 2 covers the trim, door thickness adjustment and replacing the cylinder. Functions are explained in our lock functions guide.
The 3800 mortise lock page we checked, our 3880S 26D WTN, links no Hager installation sheet, and neither does the 4500 Series exit device page we checked. Some of our Hager addresses, such as the 3450 and 3880S pages, end in "instructions"; those pages describe the lock itself, and the word does not tell you what comes in the box.
