You have a pocket or sliding door to fit, the rest of the house already wears Emtek, and the questions are practical: which pull, what size, and does this door need a lock? Start with the door itself. A notch or bore already cut in it narrows the choice of lock before finish even comes up.
Emtek flush pulls: shapes and sizes
A door that only has to slide can take a flush pull. Emtek's Modern Rectangular page names pocket doors, barn doors, closet doors and cabinets among its uses. These brass pulls are a selection from Emtek's Door Accessories specification:
| Pull | Number | Size, inches |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Rectangular | 220304, 220306 | 4 or 6 x 1-3/4 |
| Modern Rectangular | 220307, 220310, 220314 | 7, 10 or 14 x 2 |
| Modern Rectangular | 2215 | 7-1/4 x 2-7/8 |
| Rectangular | 2201 | 4 x 1-3/4 |
| Classic Rectangular | 2216 | 7-1/2 x 2-1/2 |
| Narrow Oval | 2212 | 7-1/4 x 2 |
| Square | 2213 | 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 |
| Round | 2211 | 2-1/2 diameter |
| #8 | 2205, 2206 | 5 or 6 x 1-7/8 |
In sandcast bronze, the same sheet lists the Rustic Modern Rectangular pull as 220404 and 220406 (4 and 6 x 2) and 220408 and 220410 (8 and 10 x 2-1/4). The drawings of 220304 to 220314 and of the bronze pulls mark a depth of 3/8 inch. The 220304 to 220314 series comes in all 10 of Emtek's brass finishes, and our Emtek numbers guide explains codes such as US19 that follow the number. Emtek's flush pull list names three with surface screws: Classic Rectangular, Narrow Oval and a Modern Rectangular version listed apart from the plain pull.
The Emtek 2221 edge pull
Emtek describes its brass edge pull as mounted on the edge of the door, where it lets you bring the door back out of the wall pocket. The specification calls it Edge Pull with Screws (2221) and gives 4 x 3/4 inches. Its product page shows 12 finishes.
Check the locks below before you add one. Emtek describes its Modern Rectangular and Narrow Modern mortise locks as having an integrated edge pull that a push button activates, and its Square, Round and Rectangular tubular locks as having a pop-out edge pull.
Emtek pocket door lock functions
The function notes on Emtek's pocket door lock pages read like this:
- Passage: a push button pull in the door edge that ejects when pressed.
- Privacy: the same pull plus a hooked lock, which Emtek calls common in bathroom applications.
- Keyed (Single Cylinder on Emtek's pages): for pocket doors that need security beyond a privacy latch. The Modern Rectangular keyed set comes with 2 keys. Pocket door mortise locks can be keyed alike with each other, but Emtek says not with its other products.
- Dummy: acts as a jamb on double pocket doors. Emtek's pages pair it with a passage or privacy set; the Modern Rectangular sheet says its strike plate accepts the latch from keyed and privacy locks.

Door thickness and door prep
Emtek's pages and sheets give these limits. Our door prep guide explains bore and backset.
| Lock | Door, in. | Prep |
|---|---|---|
| Modern Rectangular mortise | Specify for keyed, privacy | Mortise |
| Narrow Modern mortise | 1-3/8 minimum; specify for all | Mortise |
| Classic mortise | 1-3/8 to 1-3/4; specify | Mortise |
| Square, Round, Rectangular tubular | 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 | Tubular |
| Standard notch | 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 | Notch 2-5/8 x 1-3/4 |
| Modern Rectangular notch | 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 | Notch 3-1/8 high, 1-15/16 deep |
Emtek's Modern Rectangular mortise template draws a pocket 3-7/8 inches deep for the mortise box and a rectangular hole through the door, 2-3/16 x 6-3/4 inches, at a 2-3/16 inch backset. Its tubular instructions draw a 2-1/8 inch bore at a 2-3/8 inch backset. Both the Modern Rectangular and Classic mortise templates carry a note that they are designed for a 1-3/8 inch door, so check with us about a 1-3/4 inch door before you cut.
What 138 and 134 mean on our cards
Emtek's configurator shows the number and finish alone, such as 211415 for the Modern Rectangular passage lock in Satin Nickel (US15). Our cards for these mortise locks add the thickness at the end, for example 2114US19134 for a 1-3/4 inch door and 2115US19138 for 1-3/8. Tubular and notch cards such as 2145US19 and 2101US19 carry no thickness.
Finish and strike plate details
On Emtek's Modern Rectangular and Narrow Modern mortise pages, the push button and D-ring come in a brass finish when you order Flat Black, Satin Brass, Unlacquered Brass or Oil Rubbed Bronze, and in Chrome with Polished Chrome, Satin Nickel or Polished Nickel. The latch or lock on keyed and privacy sets follows the same split. For 2107 and 2108, Emtek says screws and strike plates are not sold separately.
Where Emtek publishes the templates
On the Emtek product pages we read, these documents sit under the Tech Specs and Installation Guides tabs; flush and edge pull pages have Tech Specs only.
- Pull sizes: Door Accessories Dimensions and Specifications.
- Modern Rectangular and Rustic Modern mortise locks: one shared door prep guide. Classic has its own.
- Narrow Modern and Narrow Oval mortise locks: a shared guide and a separate template.
- Tubular locks: the Pocket Door Tubular Lock guide, with passage, privacy and dummy sheets.
- Notch locks: a door prep guide for each.
Emtek's Modern Rectangular and Classic templates ask you to print at 1:1 on 8-1/2 x 11 paper and check the scale with a ruler. Take the cuts and steps from those documents, not from this page.
