Richelieu Cabinet Hinges: How to Identify a Replacement Hinge by Series, Angle, Overlay and Mounting Plate

A concealed cabinet hinge is replaced by matching more than the cup: the maker and series, the opening angle, the door position, the drilling and the mounting plate all count. This guide shows where each is printed for the Richelieu Hardware hinges and mounting plates on our site.

How to identify a Richelieu cabinet hinge

• Maker and series. Richelieu's concealed hinge section lists hinges under five names: Blum, Salice, Grass, Sugatsune and Richelieu. Series include CLIP top BLUMOTION, MODUL and COMPACT (Blum), 200 Series and N Series (Salice) and RCS (Richelieu). A hinge arm cover cap may carry a name: the Blum datasheet for the 110 degree CLIP top hinge (Catalogue 2022/2023, pages 74-75) lists the cap both plain and stamped with the Blum logo.
• Opening angle. Printed as Hinge Opening Angle: +110 degrees for CLIP top BLUMOTION 110, +100 for MODUL, +105 for COMPACT 38N and RCS 105, +94 for the Salice N Series.
• Door position. Richelieu's tables use Full Overlay, Half Overlay and Inset. The Salice 200 Series 110 table adds a Crank value: 0 mm for full overlay, 9 mm for half overlay, 17 mm for inset, 5 mm for 1/2 in overlay. The COMPACT 38N table lists an overlay instead, from 3/8 to 3/4 in.
• Cup and drilling. The CLIP top BLUMOTION 110, MODUL 100, COMPACT 38N and RCS 105 pages all print a 35 mm milling diameter; the Salice N Series page prints 40 mm. For hinges that are not screwed on, the Blum datasheet, the Salice general information sheet (Series 200, 100, 300, universal hinges, S and 800) and the RCS 322 instruction each draw two 8 mm holes 45 mm apart, on a line 9.5 mm from the cup center. The same pattern under three brands does not identify a hinge. Note the drilling distance too (3 to 7 mm on the Blum datasheet, 3 to 6 mm for 110 degree hinges on the Salice sheet) and Richelieu's Fixing Type, such as Screw-On, Knock-In, Inserta or Dowel.
• Hinge to plate. Richelieu lists Salice Domi snap-on plates apart from Salice slide-on plates; the Attachment field reads Clip-on for the Domi plate listed below and Slide-on for the Salice slide-on plate H00B2R3E0915. Blum plates are grouped by hinge family: CLIP top BLUMOTION, CLIP top and CLIP together, then COMPACT, then MODUL. Richelieu's Blum MODUL sheet (version 12-2004) shows the hinge slid onto the plate and held by the rear fixing screw; the CLIP top datasheet lists tool-free door to cabinet assembly and removal. Richelieu describes RCS as a clip-on system.
• Soft close or spring closing. Richelieu's Mechanism values are Spring Closing, Soft-Closing, Free Swing and Push-to-Open; CLIP top BLUMOTION 110 is listed as Spring Closing, Soft-Closing. For the 110 degree hinge, the Blum datasheet recommends a trial before combining CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges with sprung CLIP top hinges on light fronts up to 300 mm wide, and does not recommend it on wider fronts.
• Face frame or frameless. Printed as Cabinet Type. Richelieu's 38N page says "COMPACT hinges are concealed hinges for face frame cabinets."

Richelieu hinge numbers and titles on our pages

On the hinge pages we checked, the title gives the product number, the series and the opening angle, for example Richelieu BP91M27521180 MODUL 100 Hinge. The Attributes list repeats Door Position, Fixing Type, Mechanism and Milling Diameter, and on nine of the ten product pages we reviewed it adds a Brand line: Blum, Salice or Richelieu.

• CLIP top 110: the Blum datasheet lists 71B3550, 71B3650 and 71B3750 with a screw-on boss for overlay, dual and inset application, 71B3580 as knock-in and 71B3590 as INSERTA. In its hinge tables the 71B numbers are CLIP top BLUMOTION, the 71T numbers CLIP top with spring and the 70T numbers ending in .TL CLIP top unsprung. In Richelieu's table for this hinge, the nickel hinges sold per unit end in 180, the Black Onyx ones in 181.
• Salice: on Richelieu's 200 Series 110 page every number starts with H110C2, on the N Series 94 page with H094CN. The letter before the last two characters matches the crank letters of the Salice sheet: A full overlay, G half overlay, P inset, D 1/2 in overlay.
• Packs: BP numbers on the MODUL and COMPACT 38N pages are bags with screws included; numbers without a prefix are per unit, screws not included.

Mounting plates are a separate item

Richelieu's pages for the CLIP top BLUMOTION 110, RCS 105 and RCS 105 stainless steel hinges list mounting plates as required products; the COMPACT 38N page prints One piece assembly and Plate Included: Yes. The plate also changes the overlay: on the Blum datasheet, the overlay hinge at a 5 mm drilling distance gives a 16 mm front overlay with 0 mm mounting plate spacing and 13 mm with 3 mm. Note the old plate's height too.

• 174H710180: BLUM Mounting Plates with Adjusting Cam, plate height 0 mm. It is one of four plates under "Requires ONE of the following products" on Richelieu's page for hinge 71B359180.
• H00BAR3R09: Salice Cruciform 2 Cam Domi plate, clip-on, plate height 0 mm. Richelieu lists it for 100, 200, 400, F and M Series hinges, universal hinges and Silentia+ hinges.

Concealed hinges for 40 mm thick doors, stainless steel hinges and repair plates

• Thick doors: the Salice N Series H094CNA7A99 is listed for doors 20 to 40 mm thick, with a 94 degree opening angle and a 40 mm milling diameter.
• Stainless steel: Richelieu describes its soft-closing RCS 105 stainless steel hinge (stainless steel 304) for outdoor applications.
• Loose hinges: Richelieu describes its repair plates for hinges, RICHINGEPLATE, as a solution for loose cabinet hinges, with the note "Compatible only with hinges using 35mm diameter cup."
