CRL All-Glass Door Parts: Patch Door Kits, Top and Bottom Patches, Floor Pivots, Patch Locks and Transom Patches

The glass door in front of you has no frame, only metal fittings at its corners, and one part has to be replaced: a bottom patch, the cylinder of a patch lock, a dented cover on the transom fitting next to the door. To order it, you need its name. C.R. Laurence (CRL) sells these fittings under its own names and numbers, and its product pages say which part goes with which.

How CRL groups all-glass door hardware

On crlaurence.com these parts sit in the Heavy Glass Door System and Components group, under five subgroups:

  • Swing Door Systems
  • Pivot Door Systems
  • Patch Fitting Door Systems
  • Pulls, Handles, Locks, Latches and Cylinders
  • Accessory Profiles and Parts

Door rails are not on this list: CRL files its DRS Door Rails under Pivot Door Systems. Their installation documents, and some for the patch fittings below, are in our guide to CRL door rail and patch fitting instructions.

What a CRL patch door kit contains

On a patch fitting door the hardware is fixed to the glass: CRL describes its bottom patch as fitting the lower corner of the glass panel, with a hole and a cut-out in the glass. According to CRL, the PHA2 North American Patch Door Kit holds all the hardware for a single door except the overhead closer and the glass. The kit list: a PH20C adjustable top door patch, a PH10C bottom door patch, a 1NT403 bottom pivot and gaskets, with no door pull. Kits with lock add an AMR205 patch lock; cylinders, thumbturns, keepers and the closer are ordered separately. The photo of the PHA2LMBL lock kit labels each fitting by number.

Top patch fitting: North American PH20C or European PH21C

The PH20C and PH21C are the North American and European versions of CRL's adjustable top door patch. Each includes an adjustable pivot insert with 3 degrees of movement, which CRL says lines up the closed door with the jamb, and CRL lists both for use with its CRL9970 overhead concealed door closer. They differ in the pivot setback printed in the product details:

  • PH20C, North American series: 2-3/4 inch (70 mm)
  • PH21C, European series: 2-9/16 inch (65 mm)

The PH20C page warns against using it with European 2-9/16 inch setback overhead concealed closers and sends those to the PH21C.

Bottom patch fitting, insert and floor pivot

The PH10C bottom door patch comes with a 1NT301 insert, the piece that meets the floor hardware. CRL also sells the 1NT301 on its own, for the PH10 and the European PH11 bottom patches. Its Connects To list:

  • CRL8300 and CRL8400 Series floor closers, through their flat tapered spindle
  • "Floor Closers with International Type Pivot"
  • 1NT402 bottom free-swinging pivot
  • 1NT403 and 1NT406 adjustable bottom free-swinging pivots

In the PHA2 kit, made for use with an overhead door closer, the bottom partner is the 1NT403 pivot. For closer and pivot types in general, see our guides to door closer types and door hinge and pivot types.

Patch lock: AMR205 or PTH25

The AMR205 (AMR Series) mounts on the top or bottom of the door, or on its vertical edge with a keeper on the jamb. The AMR206 sidelite mount keeper secures it to a glass panel, and CRL offers more keepers, such as the AMR207 and AMR208. The cylinder is not included: CRL lists the AMR205CC double keyed cylinders and the AMR205CT keyed cylinder with thumbturn.

The PTH25 (PTH Series) glass mounted patch lock comes with its keyed cylinder, cover plates, gaskets, three keys and a strike plate. For glass-to-glass locking CRL offers the PTH26 keeper, ordered separately.

Glass preparation differs too: for an AMR205 at the top or bottom, CRL lists a 3/4 inch (19 mm) hole and a corner notch; for the PTH25, a 2-3/16 inch (56 mm) hole, plus a hole in the threshold only if the lock is bottom mounted.

Transom patch fitting: wall mounted PH34, sidelite mounted PH40

The PH34 wall mounted transom patch supports a transom from a side jamb. Its 1NT300 insert is for mounting a door with the PH20A or PH21A top door patch, and CRL says it works with both 2-3/4 and 2-9/16 inch setback door patches. Its page also describes moving the insert for a double swing door, a door stop insert for a one way door and a keeper insert for an AMR205 lock at the top of the door.

The PH40 sidelite mounted transom patch with a PK Series stop/strike gives a single door a positive stop and a strike or keeper for its panic or deadbolt. CRL prints it "For Use With PA100 Series Panics and DB100 Series Deadbolts" and makes left and right handed units. Which manual goes with which PA100 panic handle is in our CRL instructions guide.

Gaskets and cover plates sold on their own

  • GS101 gasket and grommet set: for the PH10 and PH11 bottom patches, the PH20 and PH21 top patches and the PH34 transom patch. CRL lists 4 gaskets and 1 translucent grommet, with the note "Use 4 for 3/8" (10 mm) Glass, and 2 for 1/2" (12 mm) Glass".
  • GS103 gasket and grommet set: for the PH40 transom patch. CRL lists 8 gaskets and 3 translucent grommets, with the note "Use 8 for 3/8" (10 mm) Glass, and 4 for 1/2" (12 mm) Glass".
  • 1NT103 cover plates: a set of two for replacing damaged cover plates on existing PH40 installations. CRL adds that they let you change the finish when remodeling without removing the main patch body.

Before you order: a short check

  • Series and setback: North American PH20C or European PH21C.
  • Partner part: the closer, pivot or top patch CRL lists the part with.
  • Lock extras: the AMR205 cylinder and any extra keeper; the PTH26 keeper if a PTH25 locks glass to glass.
  • Hand: CRL makes left and right handed PH40 transom patches.
  • Finish: the letters at the end of the number, such as BS (Brushed Stainless Steel), PS (Polished Stainless Steel), DU (Black Bronze Anodized) or MBL (Matte Black).

The letters are not the same on every page: for Polished Brass and Satin Anodized, the PH40 page uses PB and SA where the PH20C page uses BR and A, and the PH21C page has no brass finish (BR or SB) at all. More letters are in our guide to CRL finish codes, and you can browse CRL items on our C.R. Laurence brand page.
